Position Description

We are seeking a Scientific Writer/Project Manager (Research Associate) to provide communication support for the laboratory of Dr. Jonathan Abraham at Harvard Medical School. The Abraham lab uses methods in molecular virology and structural biology to study how viruses interact with cellular receptors and how neutralizing antibodies can block these interactions. We focus on viruses that cause lethal human diseases with limited treatment or vaccine options.

This role will include assisting the principal investigator and lab members in writing scientific research manuscripts, review articles, research proposals, and progress reports. The successful candidate will be expected to demonstrate exceptional writing skills and apply rigorous scientific thinking to these tasks. In addition, the candidate will help prepare illustrations for publications and grants and maintain lab website and social media platforms.

Responsibilities

● Draft and edit research manuscripts and review articles, and shepherd them towards publication. Work with group members to plan, write, refine, and submit grant proposals and progress reports. Ensure that scientific ideas are presented clearly, accurately, and persuasively and that documents are error-free and follow formatting and regulatory requirements.

● Prepare scientific illustrations; assemble and organize data into figures for scientific presentations, publications, and grant applications.

● Participate and help lead with the PI weekly group and project meetings and other scientific discussions while tracking project research progress. Attend meetings and assist with scientific communications with collaborators.

● Keep lab website up to date by highlighting new publications. Helping advertise lab publications on social media platforms.

Basic Qualifications

● Ph.D. in virology, microbiology, cell biology, structural biology or related field.

● Excellent writing, editing, proofreading, and verbal communications skills.

● Proficiency in programs used for data visualization and high quality figure generation.

● Ability to translate complex scientific information into clear text with outstanding diction, logical flow, and organization.

Additional Qualifications

● Must be flexible and able to prioritize deadline-driven projects and move them to completion.

● Must be able to coordinate work with numerous contributors and manage complex processes

● Strong organizational skills

● Must be able to work both independently and as part of a large, diverse research group.
