Job Description
REPORTER, MIT Technology Review (TR), to join a team of award-winning journalists and cover cutting-edge advances in hardware, including chips, robotics, and quantum computing, with an emphasis on the intersection of hardware and AI. The coverage should make MITTR a must-read by combining beat coverage, scoops, deep enterprise reporting, timely stories about major news events, and sharp analysis; and bring an understanding of both the technologies covered and the businesses and people attempting to commercialize them. Responsibilities include producing a steady drumbeat of stories that break news and cover the major events on the assigned beat and should be a mix of incremental news, scoops, analysis, and explainer-type coverage; pitching a mix of shorter and feature stories on the beat for the magazine; writing in a clear, engaging, insightful, and compelling way, making skilled and creative use of storytelling techniques, including the various forms enabled by digital media; proposing new approaches and themes of coverage; working in close collaboration with colleagues in other departments (such as events) and overseeing other content relevant to coverage area, ensuring the highest journalistic standards; playing a major role in the conception, planning, and assigning of themed print issues when these are on a topic within the assigned beat; and representing MITTR at conferences, in the press, and to audiences or communities that it wants to reach who have a special interest in that topic.
Job Requirements
REQUIRED: bachelor’s degree and at least three years of reporting experience in journalism, preferably covering chips, AI, robotics, or computing.
