Microsoft Corporation Principal PM Manager in Cambridge, Massachusetts

The Microsoft Garage is a program that puts Microsoft's cultural ambitions into action for our employees, our interns, and our customers. We develop and curate programs and offerings that enable our stakeholders to practice the cultural priorities of growth mindset, customer obsession, diverse and inclusive, One Microsoft, and making a difference. We do this through large scale events like the Microsoft One Week Hackathon and through our programs and facilities at Microsoft development centers around the world. Supporting curiosity, experimentation, and lifelong learning is a cornerstone of our programs, and Microsoft employees and teams build small-scale projects, conduct experiments, and have a variety of learning opportunities through The Garage.


The Director of the Microsoft Garage NERD will hold the following responsibilities:

  • Be part of the site leadership team and deeply understand the site priorities and support those priorities through the execution and engagement plan of The Garage

  • Strategize and develop an employee engagement plan for the local site that drives engagement for all employees while embracing diversity and inclusion

  • Engage with the local teams, both technical and non-technical, to understand how the Garage can support the business imperatives of teams working at the site

  • Develop a plan to engage with the ecosystem to bring outside perspectives into our work site to serve as a platform to showcase the work of Microsoft in the local ecosystem and drive up perceptions

  • Lead and produce the Microsoft One Week Hackathon and ensure that year-round activities accrue to making our summertime event as successful as possible

  • Build and run the Garage facility at the site and maintain all of the facility and program assets as a resource for the site employee base

Our candidate must have a proven track record building, producing, and delivering impactful events, employee engagements, and experiments. We are interested in a person with a strong external network, with the start-up, maker, and local communities based in Bay Area. The ideal candidate will have a passion for learning and technology and will have experience running and participating in hackathons. We would like a candidate who has relationships with our partners and competitive companies and, ideally, academic relationships with local universities.


Required Qualifications: 5+ years involvement with outside grassroots initiatives in Bay Area and 5+ years community management experience. Strong public speaking and event leadership experience with tools and equipment in maker labs.
