POLICY MANAGER, Abdul Latif Jameel Poverty Action Lab (J-PAL), to work to enable J-PAL and its research network to more effectively catalyze the adoption of promising evidence at scale by practitioners and policymakers. Responsibilities include identifying, developing, and managing tools and resources to enable J-PAL colleagues and practitioner and policymaker partners to better use evidence; supporting affiliated researchers to more effectively connect with policymakers and practitioners such as J-PAL’s scale-focused funding competition, the Innovation in Government Initiative (https://www.povertyactionlab.org/initiative/innovation-government-initiative) ; providing more in-depth technical support to J-PAL regional offices and/or partners in applying a specific body of evidence in a specific context; supporting, developing, and sometimes leading partnerships with global organizations such as bilaterals, multilaterals, international NGOs, and think tanks to facilitate evidence use; supporting, developing, and sometimes leading efforts to mobilize resources to support J-PAL’s evidence use efforts with philanthropies and bilateral and multilateral donors; and facilitating organizational learning at J-PAL on evidence use and contributing to the organization’s external thought leadership on evidence use.
REQUIRED: master’s degree in in public policy, public administration, international development, economics, or related field, including demonstrated academic interest in rigorous evidence about poverty alleviation; at least five years’ relevant work experience, including at least two years’ experience working in a low- or middle-income country and experience applying rigorous evidence to program or policy design and implementation; detail-orientation; excellent written and verbal communication skills; and ability to juggle multiple projects simultaneously. PREFFERED: experience working with government(s) in low- and middle-income countries in some capacity; experience in on-the-ground “implementation science” (broadly defined); and knowledge of Spanish, French, or other language(s).
