POLICY AND RESEARCH ASSOCIATE, Abdul Latif Jameel Poverty Action Lab (J-PAL), to work on special projects, providing sophisticated and timely inputs regarding policy outreach activities and desk research in direct support the executive director’s work with partners around the world, in particular the J-PAL regional offices. Will work under the direction of J-PAL’s executive director (ED) (http://povertyactionlab.org/dhaliwal) who helps direct worldwide J-PAL strategy, policies, operations and fund-raising. He is one of the primary faces of J-PAL to the external world. Policy outreach (60%) responsibilities will include writing blogs/newspaper articles with the executive director, preparing correspondence to collaborators, drafting PowerPoint presentations for ED speeches at external events, managing and posting relevant articles and tweets on ED’s social media accounts, and coordinating with J-PAL regional offices and MIT offices on behalf of the ED. Research support (40%) will include performing desk research on issues at the ED’s direction, working with J-PAL sector leads to stay on top of the most recent academic findings and debates, keeping up to date on news and social media of interest to J-PAL, and organizing input from staff members to provide background information for meetings.

Job Requirements

REQUIRED: a bachelor’s degree and training in economics, two years of relevant experience (internships may be counted, attention to detail, advanced writing skills, ability to handle several different projects at one time, and self-motivation. Job #15922
