JOB SUMMARY

The purpose of the job is to provide scientific support for Synvisc and other established products within the GEM NA Portfolio, the new Director will report to the Head of North America Medical Affairs, GEM. This position will occupy a key scientific partnership role for in General Medicine and Emerging Markets business, serving as an internal consultant and expert to commercial colleagues, support functions: medical information services ( MIS), legal, regulatory, review committees. Lead the US strategy for Synvisc; collaborate and aligned with Canada, and global. Essential to success is an outstanding partnership with Business Teams and Global Medical Affairs to maximize the medical value proposition.

Externally, the role assists health care professionals and payers to optimize patient care and treatment outcomes through evidence based decisions.

ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Develop and execute a highly efficient, intergrated US medical affairs /scientific strategy, including scientific evidence generation and scientific information exchange with all key stakeholders. Provide relevant data evidence to ensure that the strategy is clearly defined and consistent with global medical affairs and commercial and business strategy objectives. Review and approve medical and scientific content of Regultor, safety, scientific affairs, medical affairs and commercial. Work closely with and influence business development. Proactively providing guidance to marketing and sales teams. Informing all major stakeholders of unmet needs and facilitating appropriate approaches to address them. Identifying needs for post-marketing data generation and RWE /registries and overseeing their management and execution.

  • Develop sustainable high level working partnerships and successfully interact with a broad spectrum of diverse individuals. Joint Health Brand Team is a primary internal stakeholder and a close and operational way of working is needed to execute on Joint Health Strategy. Act as a core member/partner of the Joint Health Brand team.

  • Develops the plan and execution of a comprehensive medical marketing strategy for Synvisc. Serve as internal medical adviser and expert for other established products in the US GEM BU portfolio. Collaborate with and influence a diverse group of individuals in a proactive, objective and diplomatic manner.

  • Develop significant communication materials and formulate medical and scientific strategic vison for Synvisc which is aligned with global, and influence with credibility. Work as the core liaison between global medical affairs and US Joint Health Team. Work closely with the head of Field Medical to build on unmet need and insights development.

  • Work both collaborative and independently and with a sense of urgency to understand patients’ needs as well as business challenges.

  • Manages RWE projects and proactively seeks out data gaps in external environment. Digital Medicine awareness and capabilities and a view to increasing scientific communication reach to external stakeholders. FMV awareness / Tiering of external stakeholders

Education:

Doctorate degree from an accredited college or university (e.g., M.D., PHD)

  • Area of specialization: General Medicine and or subspecialty

Experience:

  • 2-5 years professional experience which includes works on behalf of patients and/ or collaborate work with external professional associations. Ability to influence without authority in a highly matrixed environment. Strategic approach to problem-solving considering all of the potential implications of key decisions and messaging. Experience with clinical trials, retrospective database analysis and healthcare delivery in the United States or globally and biotechnology drug or device development process. Exceptional oral and written communications skills with strong ability to evaluate and communicate scientific data. Travel requirements: 10-25%.

  • Broad based medical expertise to assure rigorous scientific evaluation is conducted and aligned with global strategy on Synvisc and other EP portfolio products.

  • Greater than 3 years of Pharmaceutical medical Affairs or clinical development experience; will also consider experience in academia

  • Functional Expertise-working knowledge of treatments, product labeling and Federal Regulations pertaining to pharmaceutical products, promotion, and industry sponsored scientific and educational activities. Strong knowledge of vascular biology literature.

Demonstrated team Leadership:

  • Advanced proficiency in stakeholder management, including interpersonal skills and customer service orientation.

  • Prior strategic leadership experience with geographically dispersed teams in the pharmaceutical or biotechnology industry.

  • Ability to shape and implement customer-centric medical strategies for Synvisc and established products.

  • Applied understanding of and ability to integrate healtheconomics research into customer programs and initiatives.

  • Ability to work and collaborate with external partners in a transparent manager to achieve desired outcomes.

  • String cross functional, collaboration and negotiation skills.

  • Advanced knowledge of the US market and the stakeholders influencing medical decisions.

  • In-depth understanding of the FDA, OIG, HIPPA and other ethical guidelines relevant to the pharmaceutical industry, and ensure compliance with these external as well as internal guidelines and standard operating procedures.

  • Regularly create and taking advantage of learning opportunities and identify new areas for learning.

  • Business acumen-understands and utilizes economic, financial, and industry data to accurately diagnose business strengths and weaknesses, identifies key issues, and develops strategies and plans.

Additional Responsibilities:

Manages and coordinate internal resources and develops relationships with stakeholders and external partners to deliver value.

  • Facilitate learning and best practice sharing and provide a forum for discussions and sharing of information across the NA regional and Teams.

  • Work with medical scientific liaison (MSLs) and other stakeholders to ensure tools, processes and capabilities are in place to capture and integrate customer insights into LCM and strategies.

Customer Integration:

Serves as the integration point for medical, scientific and customer need for Synvisc and other established products products (Lovenox, Plavix). Anticipate customer needs and drive changes to proactively meet these needs, including where/how the function provides value to customers.

  • Display customer-centric thinking and behaviors by providing proactively developing solutions.

  • Synthesize customer insights ensure treatment standards, policy changes and the emerging trends are proactively identified and integrated into strategies and strategic thinking.

  • Establish processes, resources and venues to ensure sharing of information and best practices across internal customer segments and teams including global and Canada

  • Demonstrate company values on a consistent bias.

  • This position directly manages budget for Synvisc and legacy cardiovascular products.
