    Job Description

INTERIOR DESIGNER, Facilities-Campus Construction-Project Management Group, to perform a specialized function in the design of interior spaces with a focus on furniture, finishes, and in some cases maintaining historic integrity on a broad spectrum of projects. Will assist and guide MIT community members with interior finish and selections such as paint, carpet, and furniture; maintain interiors library binders and finishes; prepare furniture budgets, presentations, schedules, drawings, and finish boards; order samples and demos as required; manage community requests for furniture and interior finishes; work with MIT project teams, including architects, to develop furniture specifications and finish selections, ensuring the use of MIT standards and preferred vendors; manage the delivery and installation of assigned work, including final punch list and service; work with preferred vendors to obtain drawings and quotes; review final specifications, drawings, and quotes for accuracy; manage small renovations that are finish and furniture focused; assist interiors program manager with selection and management of preferred furniture vendors; evaluate new products for potential use and participate in the development of furniture standards; and assist project teams with making sustainable choices related to furniture and finishes.

Job Requirements

REQUIRED: bachelor’s degree in interior design or related field; at least three years’ commercial furniture experience; extensive knowledge of major furniture manufacturers, products, and specifications; strong interpersonal skills and ability to effectively communicate and work effectively with individuals at all levels; and ability to read construction documents.
