Position Description

The Institute Fellow at The Future of Media: Truth, Privacy, and Power Program will be responsible for assisting in a wide range of activities concerning the intellectual leadership of the program and overseeing the program’s day-to-day operations, and will also carry out an independent research program, preferably on topics related to one of the program’s research themes. The position will report to the two Faculty Co-Chairs.

The Future of Media: Truth, Privacy, and Power is a unique partnership between Harvard Business School (HBS) and Harvard’s Institute for Quantitative Social Science (IQSS), with the goal of furthering research and identifying implementable solutions to rebalance truth, privacy and power in the media industry. The intention is to understand and address issues related to the media that are impacting society and where it is unlikely that private solutions will emerge due to (a) lack of trust or neutrality (b) lack of resources or c) low incentives to contribute to the public good.

Other Essential Duties and Responsibilities: ● Work with the Faculty Co-Chairs to shape the program’s intellectual and academic mission. ● Explore and develop future initiatives and ways to expand the program’s academic influence. ● Participate in and promote academic scholarly activities to include: *Research and publication in recognized journals and publications, peer reviewed journals, periodicals, or books. *Presentations at regional, national, and international meetings. ● Working across the appropriate University entities, develop a fundraising plan, and identify and engage prospects. Identify grant opportunities. Assist with grant and research proposals, as needed. ● Grow academic collaborations with across faculty at Harvard ● Contribute to the interdisciplinary research of the program by participating in and attending monthly research meetings. ● Help expand the profile of the Program and its audiences within the academic, policy, and professional communities. ● Oversee academic workshop including developing agenda, inviting presenters and participants. ● Engage with industry, government and non-profits. Represent the program areas at various convenings as requested. ● Assist affiliated research staff in tasks related to their projects ● Prepare reports as needed.

This is a one-year term appointment through Harvard University with the possibility of renewal based on performance and funding.

Basic Qualifications

● B.A. in related field. ● Demonstrated expertise and scholarly activity in one’s field. ● Demonstrated administration or program management experience within higher education, non-profit, or business sector.

Additional Qualifications

● Masters degree preferred.
● Ability to operate independently with a strong sense of self-management required. ● Must have excellent verbal and written communication skills, and the ability to communicate effectively with students, faculty, and staff. ● Candidates must have US work authorization. Unfortunately, Harvard cannot provide visa sponsorship for this position.
