SMMA Government Project Architect in Cambridge, Massachusetts
SMMA is seeking a talented architect with at least 10 years of professional experience to join our team focusing on design in the Government market sector.
We are privileged to have been selected to provide design services to Massport, DCAMM, and multiple Department of Defense agencies. Working with an integrated team of specialists, the candidate will bring experience in solving the unique challenges of this client type and navigating the special requirements, permitting, and energy needs often inherent to these projects. They will also have many opportunities to connect with peers servicing SMMA’s other market sectors: Corporate, Commercial, Life Science, Higher Education, K-12, and Advanced Technology.

Key Responsibilities:
Take an active role in all project phases, from schematic design through construction administration and including master planning efforts
Ability to work independently, lead project teams, and partner with knowledge experts to seek out design opportunities and apply best practices
Develop the documents to reinforce the design intent while balancing cost, code, constructability constraints, and client expectations
Communicate and keep other project team members engaged as the project team leader while mentoring junior staff
Conduct quality control review and enforce design guidelines
Requirements:
Bachelor of Architecture degree or Master’s degree
Architectural Registration with at least 10 years of professional experience, with a special interest in the Government market sector
Understanding or direct use of digital tools for BIM, 3D modeling, design visualization, and team and client communication (MS Teams preferred)
Strong leadership, written, verbal, graphic communication, and organizational skills
High level of interest in conceptual, technical, and managerial aspects of the building design process
Familiarity with the development of Contract Documents for Public Bid
Familiarity with government criteria, including Unified Facilities Criteria and other applicable military and government facility standards
