  • developing and driving an effective business development strategy to place HMS technologies with industry and generate support for HMS research projects

  • translating the vision and business objectives of OTD HMS into operational results

  • working with senior leadership of HMS to develop new strategic initiatives

  • assessing and analyzing new opportunities for alignment with key institutional priorities

  • managing and enhancing high level relationships with HMS faculty and other internal as well as external stakeholders

  • acting as a designee in the absence of the Senior Associate Provost representing the Senior Associate Provost and his views as necessary with key internal and external stakeholders

  • providing day-to-day assistance and advice to the Senior Associate Provost on key issues

  • working with other University units and faculties to advance complex high-priority projects including invention disclosures, patent applications, royalty revenues, technology transfer transactions, new venture formation

  • building relationships with major corporations of relevance in order to facilitate technology development and increase the potential of sponsored research from these sources

  • providing expert knowledge of the biotechnology marketplace and methods of technology valuation and providing leadership in the team effort to license these technologies

  • engendering innovation and technology development within the Harvard community and securing protection for those technologies

  • working with Patent Counsel to evaluate, market and license new inventions, including determining an approach designed to maximize “value” to Harvard through collaborations with industry

  • aiding in the overall effort to make Harvard research more accessible outside the University through swift and effective development and commercialization.

  • working with HMS PIs to provide ongoing service on issues related to technology transfer and business development, assessing the commercial potential and market opportunity of new inventions coming from their labs, and developing and implementing innovative strategies to market and license these emerging technologies and inventions
