    Job Description

EVENTS AND COMMUNICATIONS ASSISTANT, Program in Science, Technology, and Society (STS), to perform diverse and complex administrative tasks in support of event and communication activities, support the department head, and ensure the timely execution of STS activities. Event planning will include preparing STS event calendars; managing regular/special events, e.g., meetings, lectures, colloquia, workshops, conferences, retreats, etc.; designing event posters/flyers; circulating print and digital event communications; composing and editing correspondence, memos, and presentation materials; developing invitation lists; managing in-person, hybrid, and online event logistics; scheduling department head’s travel, creating itinerary, and preparing associated forms; reconciling financial transactions; and coordinating the schedule of events for the visiting committee. Communications duties will involve production, proofreading, editing, and administrative support for multiple projects/events/campaigns/website; scheduling, writing, and maintaining website and social media content; building a social media audience; preparing emails and tracking responses; designing class posters and graphics; drafting communications for events/activities/meetings; suggesting improvements to content style and flow; sourcing and securing rights to images; and coordinating submission of the president’s report. Other duties include preparing faculty promotion case materials; maintaining faculty committee assignments; serving as primary procurement card verifier; preparing travel reports; and assisting with special projects.

Job Requirements

REQUIRED: high school diploma or its equivalent; five years’ relevant experience; proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, Adobe products (Photoshop, InDesign), WordPress, Dropbox, and Google Workspace; excellent organizational, interpersonal, customer service, and oral and written communication skills; attention to detail; and good judgment and discretion with confidential matters. Must be able to manage multiple priorities; anticipate needs; research and resolve problems; and work effectively with people at all levels.
