ENGAGEMENT EDITOR, MIT Technology Review (MITTR) (https://www.technologyreview.com/supertopic/about/) , to serve as a key player in MITTR’s ambitious goals for widening the reach and impact of its journalism. Will work as part of the engagement team to distribute ground-breaking and thought-leading content on digital platforms that include Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, LinkedIn, and others; work under the direction of the editorial director of special projects and operations to map out and execute MITTR’s social media strategy; create and publish content on MITTR’s main social media platforms; use data collected on readers’ responses to that content to test ideas for increasing reach and hone overall social media strategy; handle social media promotion and live coverage of MITTR events (https://events.technologyreview.com/events/?_ga=2.255932291.963497425.1641405304-1447274485.1639165158) several times a year; use track record of understanding the dynamics of Twitter, LinkedIn, Facebook, and Instagram to develop audiences in each; and develop strategies for Apple News, Flipboard, Google’s Discover, and other news platforms.
REQUIRED: bachelor’s degree in journalism, technology, or related field; three years’ experience in social media content development, preferably in a newsroom and with a focus on technology or science; experience with multimedia production; demonstrated skill making news judgments, editing, and writing headlines, and presenting the most interesting aspect of a news story; strong organizational and copy-editing skills; excellent spelling and grammar; understanding of journalistic ethics and ability to maintain high journalistic standards under deadline pressure; understanding of the social media landscape; ability to work proactively and independently and handle multiple projects simultaneously--despite changing priorities/conditions--while maintaining accuracy and meeting deadlines; and an interest in technology and science news. Must be able and willing to work varied shifts as determined by the news cycle, possibly including early mornings, nights, and some weekends and holidays.
Occasional travel to attend MITTR events will be required.1/5/22
