The Director of Design for Ecosystems leads a design org that shapes a learning platform visited by 90M people each month, web portals that service business partners and field sales, and high-traffic marketing websites that drive the adoption of Azure cloud services. We’re anticipating a lot of growth in this space and we’re looking for a design leader who can help scale the design team contributions across four or more related internal organizations.

Today, the design team works on Microsoft Learn, docs.microsoft.com, Microsoft Q&A, Partner Center & Seller Experiences portals, and Azure.com. This team plays a critical role in bringing together expertise in design, research, and accessibility to create the kind of experiences that help others achieve their goals with as little friction as possible. Design quality is extremely important to the Developer Relations business and this team raises the bar for design excellence.

Responsibilities

  • Lead an org of product designers (managers and individual contributors) to create seamless experiences for millions of users

  • Partner closely with peers in Product Management, Engineering, and Marketing to build, launch and iterate products & features

  • Oversee multiple streams of work and deliver a cohesive customer experience for customers who use Microsoft products.

  • Allocate resources in a balanced way to create great outcomes for our internal and external users

  • Shape and evolve the overall Design org culture, vision, principles, and processes

  • Represent the Design org in executive reviews

  • Be the champion for UX best practices.

Qualifications

  • 5+ years people management experience, including demonstrated ability to evolve teams and build culture

  • Deep understanding of modern experience design practices, including accessibility and inclusive design.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Excellent communication skills in a fast-paced environment (verbal, written, and visual) and the ability to influence and build consensus.

  • Track record of using research data and insights to drive decisions and measure success

  • Experience with A/B testing and leading Design teams through the process

  • Familiar with managing budget and POs for external vendors and tools
