DIRECTOR OF COMMUNICATIONS, Computer Science and Artificial Intelligence Laboratory (CSAIL), to lead and execute an energetic and thoughtful communications effort in support of CSAIL’s strategic activities and initiatives. Will oversee all communications involving CSAIL and the development and implementation of a lab-wide communications strategy; play a lead role in all the branding, design, digital, editorial, messaging, and public relations efforts of CSAIL and engage the wide and varied audience that follows its groundbreaking work; collaborate closely with CSAIL’s academic and administrative leadership to create and convey a compelling image of CSAIL and the importance of its mission; and supervise a small staff team while managing external vendors and freelancers. Job Requirements
REQUIRED: a bachelor's degree, preferably in communications or related field; at least seven years’ relevant professional experience, preferably at a creative agency or in political communications or higher education; excellent communication, branding planning, public relations, strategic marketing, writing, editing, and publication skills; ability to design and implement effective communications strategies and programs; strong leadership skills; ability to "read the crowd", own one's opinions, forge strong relationships up and down, and influence; ability to manage a multifunctional team, function as a collaborative team player, and work effectively with multiple internal stakeholders under tight deadlines; strong project and time management skills and the ability to guide projects from inception to completion; and excellent managerial and organizational abilities. PREFERRED: a master’s degree; familiarity with AP style; and technical and digital experience with diverse platforms, including video production, CMS (including WordPress) and CRM platforms, website creation/maintenance, design (e.g., Adobe Creative Suite), and social media and networking.
