  • Communication, project management, and/or a degree in a related field is a plus

  • Interest and/or experience with development and/or academia is a plus

  • Experience with Microsoft SharePoint is a plus

  • Experience analyzing and working with data is a plus

  • Excellent writing, editing, and proofreading skills preferred

  • Experience with Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint preferred

Research Translation & Communication

  • Keep current on trends, research, and scientific news; advise and train appropriate staff accordingly (ex: sending weekly digest of relevant media and scheduling team presentations about on faculty research).

  • Coordinate logistics for educational opportunities, including OER brown bag and all-staff Q&As featuring faculty, staff, and students to promote effective storytelling and messaging.

  • Develop and maintain office resources, such as the Fundraiser Toolkit and the Communication Station (ex: development materials for the team and donors).

Team Support & Special Projects

  • Drive project management tools and processes to help maintain workflows with shifting timelines for better organization and transparency (ex: proposal queue and team expense tracking).

  • Work independently with minimal supervision in a work environment of multiple and conflicting priorities (ex: serve as a resource to the team when the Associate Director is out of the office, willingness to pick up extra projects across OER when the team is understaffed, ability to write and edit under tight timelines).

  • Support the Associate Director of Strategic Priorities and Deputy Vice Dean for Development with special projects and assignments, as needed

  • Overall, performs other duties as assigned

Chan School of Public Health is to advance the public’s health through learning, discovery, and communication. The Office for External Relations (OER) is committed to securing the financial resources, time, and loyalty of alumni, friends, and philanthropic organizations to promote the School’s work of educating new generations of public health leaders and producing powerful ideas for a healthier world.

The Senior Strategic Priorities Coordinator reports directly to the Associate Director of Strategic Priorities. The team's focus is aligning the School’s development efforts with the Dean's strategic priorities: the Harvard Chan Frontiers and the School's core needs (including unrestricted dollars, financial aid, professorships, and infrastructure needs). The team builds collaborative partnerships within OER and across the Harvard Chan School to identify gift opportunities and articulate a compelling case for philanthropic support. To effectively support the Dean’s Office, the Strategic Priorities team is responsible for assuring quality control with development information flow, such as sharing new research with a public audience and crafting compelling proposals for potential donors.

This Senior Strategic Priorities Coordinator supports the creation, organization, and distribution of fundraising materials, including (but not limited to): talking points, one-pagers, concept notes, formal proposals, and reference guides. Additional responsibilities include coordinating Strategic Priorities events and activities, such as faculty talks at OER team meetings and the Strategic Priority and Research Knowledge (SPARK) Workshop series.

The position necessitates strong writing, editing, and proofreading skills. Coordinators must also be adept at organizing, analyzing, and presenting data. The Strategic Priorities team's work can evolve quickly, requiring flexibility and nimble communication. Team members are encouraged to show initiative and must be comfortable working with a range of stakeholders across the Office, School, and University. The successful candidate should demonstrate a high level of organization, professionalism, and discretion. Keen adaptability and attention to detail are key.

Gift Opportunities & Proposals

  • Partner with the Associate Director of Strategic Priorities to write/edit/proof compelling proposals to secure philanthropic support for the Harvard Chan Frontiers and core needs of the School (ex: unrestricted dollars, financial aid, professorships, and infrastructure needs)

  • Maintain team records, including the proposal queue and archive, for institutional memory, version control, and metric tracking

  • Support the Associate Director of Strategic Priorities in ensuring that gifts meet School and University criteria (ex: coordinate with Operations team on gift terms and Gift Policy Committee reviews)

Faculty Support & Office Coordination

  • In partnership with the Associate Director, serve as a subject matter expert/source of information on strategic priorities for the School, including donor materials, news sources, current research, and Harvard Chan Story Spotlight engagement (ex: SPARK Workshops, Brown Bag Lecture Series, and OER All-Staff Meetings)

  • Collaborate with the Communications team to coordinate messaging and amplify strategic content that supports the Harvard Chan Frontiers and core needs of the School

  • Facilitate engagement with faculty across the School (ex: interviews, educational opportunities with OER, etc.)
