COMMUNICATIONS ASSISTANT 1, Earth, Atmospheric and Planetary Sciences (EAPS), to assist the communications officer across the full range of departmental communications--internal and external--to promote EAPS research and academic programs. Tasks include providing content management support for multiple websites, events calendars, and email campaigns; writing news and feature articles and keeping up-to-date on current research and events in order to contribute to an editorial calendar; copyediting and proofing; developing and scheduling content for social media channels; interfacing with Institute communicators to help coordinate coverage; assisting as a point of contact for media requests; photographing and recording events; executing content for internal informational video displays; monitoring and updating online and physical directories; and digital asset management, including collecting, editing, and converting files for upload to content to platforms like YouTube, as well as cataloging and archiving assets in an internal library.
REQUIRED: high school diploma or its equivalent; at least three years’ experience in a communications or journalistic role for a science, technology, or business publication and/or in higher education; strong reporting, writing, and copyediting skills and knowledge of AP style; experience coordinating social media channels; familiarity with content management systems (e.g., Drupal, Wordpress, MailChimp) and database management; working knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite; ability to work independently and collaboratively across a diverse interdisciplinary group; excellent interpersonal and project management skills; willingness to learn new skills as needed; ability to prioritize to meet deadlines; and keen attention to detail. PREFERRED: bachelor’s degree in communications or related field; background in the physical sciences; and experience with the fundamentals of design, photography, and/or podcasting and video production.
