Additional Qualifications and Skills:

Excellent writing and editing skills, and ability to build positive, effective relationships with a range of constituents. Understanding of Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, etc.) a must.

Experience with email service providers (MailChimp, etc.). Experience in Sharepoint, Drupal, InDesign, HTML, and Adobe Creative Suite a very strong plus, as is experience with Symplicity career management system. Experience with web accessibility requirements. Experience working in higher education a plus

Web writing, editing, and content management: Work in the Sharepoint and Drupal content management systems to write, edit, and maintain webpages on the external and internal OCA websites. Coordinate directly with OCA colleagues to write, edit, and update content regularly and ensure that the editorial voice and style are in alignment with HKS guidelines. Coordinates, writes, and edits a weekly digital OCA newsletter. Work with the DPSA Communications team to ensure that web content is developed to follow best practices (search engine optimization, page scrolls, etc.).

Copyediting: Edit content and a range of materials, including coaching and employer collateral and email communications, to be in alignment with the HKS editorial and style guidelines.

Editorial management: Collaborate closely with OCA members from start to finish, to conceptualize, write, design, print, and deliver print and digital materials for key OCA events, employer recruitment, and for our student community. Develop detailed event and project plans and timelines and monitor progress to deliver projects on time and ensure that quality standards are met. Seek opportunities for improvement and present ideas proactively for future projects

Supports the entire OCA team in the production of visual materials and presentations, and, as appropriate, in finding new and creative ways of reaching our target audiences

Events management: Works closely with members of OCA to plan and execute OCA events including professional development and employer events. Conceptualizes events as needed, and plans and manages all communications (messages, materials, publicity, etc.) in support of the event

Working closely with DPSA Communications team, and serves as OCA’s representative to school-wide communications committees. Inventory management: Manage inventory of collateral kept in-house. Order new inventory as needed.

The Office of Career Advancement (OCA) Communications and Events Coordinator is a critical member of a dynamic, mission-driven team in the Office of Career Advancement at Harvard Kennedy School. Working across OCA’s career coaching and employer relations, the Communications and Events Coordinator will develop, execute, and project manage the strategic communication priorities, activities and initiatives for OCA.

As the team’s lead communications coordinator, this role works closely with all members of OCA to develop effective print and digital products—from concept to completion. Importantly, the coordinator also contributes to the writing and editing of strategic messaging and content for OCA materials as well as for the OCA-related pages on the Harvard Kennedy School website. This includes writing and managing content about OCA programs, supporting materials for key events, and employer recruitment/employer media channels, and in email communications.

The coordinator must have at least three years of relevant professional experience In an organization, agency or marketing/communications firm. Mission focused work, or work in higher education a plus.

To be successful in this role, the coordinator must have impeccable writing and communication skills, be highly organized, detail oriented, and independent, have strong interpersonal skills and the ability to prioritize and multi-task, and remain calm under pressure. Demonstrated project management, writing, and editing are critical core requirements. Experience working in content management systems, Drupal in particular, is strongly preferred.
