Technology Skills Required: Experience preferred in editing a web-based content management system (CMS) with calendaring and uploading images and event information. Experience using social media tools for program promotion. Experiencing resizing digital images. Comfort with all Microsoft office systems including MS Word, Excel, and PowerPoint. Some prior experience with making promotional materials such as posters and social media posts preferred.Additional Information: This is a 12-month term appointment with the possibility of renewal contingent on funding.

This Staff role may start as a remote position due to the COVID-19 pandemic and while restrictions are still in place. The current remote nature of this role is considered temporary and may change as the University continues to evaluate options. While we continue to monitor the evolving COVID-19 guidelines, local on-campus work may be expected for some roles. Harvard Medical School does support flexible schedules, subject to individual departments’ business needs.

The Department of Global Health and Social Medicine (DGHSM) at Harvard Medical School applies social science and humanities research to improve the practice of medicine, the delivery of treatment, and the development of health care policies worldwide. To maintain our leadership of the field, the Department must: underline our commitment to teaching and research in global health equity; maintain and enhance support for “effector arms,” with a focus on implementation and delivery; strengthen models of graduate and post-graduate training, and coordinate efforts throughout Harvard to build a common agenda around global health equity.

The DGHSM is recruiting for a Communications and Events Coordinator who will report to the Executive Director. This position is an integral part of the Department’s administrative team. The successful candidate will create promotional materials, contribute to the development of the DGHSM website, and organize and promote department events.

Working both independently and in collaboration with others, the coordinator will be responsible for the following:

  • Creating and disseminating monthly newsletters and email correspondence to various audience.

  • Developing and managing web content.

  • Updating and maintaining the Center’s social media presence, including scheduling Facebook, Twitter, and LinkedIn updates. May also include updating and/or maintaining other platforms.

  • Editing submitted content for social media channels.

  • Writing and designing flyers, graphics, e-vites, and other marketing material.

  • Planning and executes department events including but not limited to seminars, symposia, lectures, receptions, and large meetings both virtual and in-person.

  • Assessing and reporting on the effectiveness of the communications strategies.

  • Performs other related tasks as assigned.
