Microsoft Corporation Business Planner in Cambridge, Massachusetts

The Microsoft Digital Stores are engagement points that reach tens of millions of customers across hundreds of markets on our Xbox and Windows platforms to showcase Gaming, Entertainment and Productivity.

To help us better understand and meet customer needs as the digital content landscape undergoes dramatic changes, we are hiring a cross functional Business Planner to aid in the creation of innovative and engaging customer experiences that earn fans through our Stores on Xbox and Windows, digital content categories and services. This role will contribute to delivering best in class customer experiences through developing and owning all customer experience metrics, monitoring health of the business and providing visibility to senior leadership, translating customer insights into business opportunities, and identifying investments and best practices that drive scalable impact.

How you could make an impact:

  • Combine your experience in ecommerce and business planning with your strategic framing skills to drive a deeper understanding of our customer’s evolving shopping needs as their digital content consumption habits span multiple platforms, devices, and acquisition models.

  • Use your cross-group collaboration and business management skills to evolve and grow our view of the customer to be more aligned to behavior and less to current lines of business.

  • Leverage your attention to detail and ability to understand and manage complex systems to champion insight-driven narratives and innovative ideas for growth.

  • Utilize your data analysis and visualization skills to improve the informativeness and accuracy of our highly visible rhythm of business work including budgeting, forecasting, and ongoing performance guidance.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • 3+ years of marketing, business planning, ecommerce experience or other related and relevant experience

  • Demonstrated analytical horsepower and depth in ability to make data driven decisions.

Highly Preferred Experience and Skills:

  • Demonstrated ability to drive results within a matrixed environment through cross-group collaboration, influencing others and clarity of decision making.

  • Strong attention to detail

  • Integrate and contribute to a Team First culture

  • Solid relationship and communication skills for working with senior managers and Microsoft-wide groups.

  • Strong executive presence and business maturity for internal presentations

  • Demonstrated project management skills coordinating deliverables across several stakeholders.

  • Ability to use Excel or other tools to perform data analysis and business modeling.

  • Ability to use PowerPoint to tell a succinct business story based on data analysis.

  • 5+ years of eCommerce or equivalent practical or functional experience


  • Develop and own all Client Customer Experience metrics to measure marketing effectiveness: from customer acquisition through to repeat engagement.

  • Conduct analysis and develop insights to optimize for greater impact across channels and to provide visibility to senior leadership.

  • Own weekly, monthly, and quarterly reporting on the state of initiatives and goals assigned.

  • Create high-quality communications and presentations to senior leadership both inside and outside the company.

  • Translate customer insights into new business opportunities.

  • Contribute to near- and long-term customer experience improvements by coordinating with team members on new innovations to drive traffic, conversion, and engagement across managed channels.

  • Systematically quantify and prioritize the potential impact of new functionality or features that provide customers and partners with an unparalleled experience.

  • Create streamlined processes and best practices for other marketers to utilize.
