    Job Description

AV TECHNICAL MANAGER, MIT Museum, to provide event development and operation support to MIT Museum users on all technical systems in its presentation spaces. Will perform a variety of tasks specific to preparing and implementing public engagement programs and rentals (including performances, festivals, lectures, film and video screenings, etc.). Responsibilities include planning, preparing, and implementing technical elements of museum events/activities; artist rider management and contract administration; hiring, training, and supervising staff/contractors/vendors; handling maintenance needs for video, audio, and lighting equipment/systems; sourcing and securing rentals; vendor relations; recommending equipment or venue technical upgrades; purchasing supplies/equipment; keeping up-to-date venue technical specifications and operation manuals; budget preparation; fostering a team-oriented environment; developing and ensuring event deadlines are met; ensuring a safe experience for participants/visitors; overseeing technical set-up for special events; and other duties as assigned. Job Requirements

REQUIRED: high school diploma or its equivalent; at least two years’ experience with production and hands-on oversight of AV technical requirements, scheduling, and event coordination; wide-ranging technical expertise (lighting, audio, staging, video); experience hiring and managing technicians, crews, volunteers, and support staff; experience supporting multiple projects concurrently, including developing and maintaining project timelines, scheduling, and tracking project progress; excellent organizational, interpersonal, networking, and written and spoken communication skills; interest in and support for advancing issues related to diversity, equity, access, and inclusion; initiative; flexibility and ability to adapt to changing priorities and respond to shifting needs; familiarity with CAD, Vectorworks, or SketchUp and ability to read technical drawings; proficiency with Microsoft Office; and experience and comfort using a personnel lift at heights of 30’0. Working conditions: remaining in one position for extended periods of time, reaching for objects, moving up and down stairs/ladders, bending, stooping, and extending to move and retrieve materials; pulling, pushing, and lifting; reaching both above and below shoulder height; lifting weights of up to 50 pounds; visually inspecting work; closely distinguishing and understanding sound mix and audio levels; operating computer and other office equipment; and heavy usage of computers and phones.
