Additional Information:

The Assistant Director of Government and Political Pathways provides programmatic oversight of student engagement programs within Phillips Brooks House. The Assistant Director of Government and Political Pathways oversees day-to-day program functions related to student leadership development, residential student engagement strategies, summer fellowship experiences, winter break volunteer opportunities, and post-graduate public service employment opportunities for current Harvard undergraduates and recent graduates in the public interest sector. Phillips Brooks House programs focus extensively on student civic engagement, building community partnerships, and alumni/ae engagement. Harvard College provides support to a wide-range of community service organizations, alumni/ae Clubs, Shared Interest Groups (SIGs), and public service initiatives.

Physical Requirements:

  • Sitting using near vision use for reading and computer use for extended periods of time

Position Description:

Student Recruiting and Advising

  • Performs primary oversight of advising students about civic pathways related to term-time, summer, winter, and post-graduate work in the government and political sphere.

  • Performs primary oversight of recruiting students for leadership and professional development opportunities •Reading student applications and recommending candidates to our community partners.

  • Develops resources to engage all students with an emphasis on supporting incoming first-year students and students from underrepresented communities.

Program Management

  • Manages operations for a suite of public service programs for students.

  • Managing the Stad Fellowship Program and supporting several programs including: the Mindich Service Fellowship Program, the Harvard Clubs Summer Community Service Fellowship Program, the Arthur Liman Public Interest Law Fellowship Program, the SPARK program for pre-matriculated students, the Fong Family Winternship Program, and the Priscilla Chan Summer Service Stipend

Community Partnership Building

  • Supports partnership building work related to term-time, summer, winter, and post-graduate programs.

  • Collaborates with several departments on campus to support campus conferences and regionally-based partnerships and programs, such as nonprofit board recruitment fairs and graduate school networking nights.

Communications

  • Manages social media efforts, with a focus on efforts that connect students to professional development opportunities

Event Support

  • Supports for departmental events. Some of these events currently include Public Service Recruiting Day, the First-Year Day of Service, SPARK, the Public Interested Conference, the Scholarship and Social Justice Research Conference, and a series of alumni engagement activities.
