    Job Description

ASSISTANT DIRECTOR, List Visual Arts Center, to assume a senior role at the List Center, a contemporary art museum at MIT. Will perform--with minimal supervision--complex and diverse administrative duties in support of the director of the List Center; prepare annual, project, and long-range budgets; manage all accounts; oversee daily program operations; summarize and implement Institute policies and procedures; advise on personnel matters, including interviewing hiring, and evaluating support staff; anticipate and initiate actions regarding the operation of the List Center; function both as an individual contributor and coordinator of multiple projects; and perform research for and work with members of the MIT community to inform the work of the director.

Job Requirements

REQUIRED: bachelor’s degree; at least five years of administration and fundraising experience, preferably including management and/or accounting; excellent organizational, interpersonal, team-building, problem-solving, writing, editing, and communication skills; comfort interacting with donors; flexible approach to workload in a fast-paced environment; initiative; attention to detail; independent judgment, tact, and discretion with confidential information/materials; advanced-level data management skills and ability to create complex spreadsheet, especially in Excel, Keynote, and PowerPoint; comfort with MacIntosh environment, including experience with Microsoft Office, Adobe Creative Suite, donor tracking software, internet searching, email, and electronic calendaring; and ability to learn new software as needed. Must be able to multitask, set priorities, and manage competing priorities; create and meet budgets; work independently with minimal supervision; and collaborate effectively with others. PREFERRED: knowledge of and support for contemporary art; familiarity with Boston, national, and international art patrons; fundraising and previous gala, events, or related experience; knowledge of marketing and communications, the MIT environment, and the List Center.
