Job Description
ASSISTANT DIRECTOR, MEDIA RELATIONS, Sloan School of Management, to join a dynamic communications team in a hybrid work environment and promote world-leading management experts and the latest business trends at Sloan in analytics, technology, sustainability, finance, leadership, the future of work, and the digital economy. Will secure media coverage of key Sloan research, initiatives, and newsmakers. Responsibilities include proactively pitching faculty research and experts and stories about Sloan that align with broader departmental and institutional priorities; create press releases and other content for Sloan’s website and external audiences; help craft and edit opinion and contributed pieces from faculty members and leadership; develop relationships with media representatives; and respond to media inquiries. Job Requirements
REQUIRED: bachelor’s degree, preferably in English, journalism, or related field; three years’ experience in a media, journalistic, public relations, or communications role; strong collaboration skills; and ability to engage key external audiences and understand the needs of reporters, editors, and their news cycles. Must be able to explore new and emerging media relations practices and engagement, know what makes a story newsworthy in today’s media landscape, and have ideas about how Sloan can tell the story of its impact in new ways. PREFERRED: experience in higher education; familiarity with business, finance, and technology; knowledge of social media (e.g., Twitter, LinkedIn, Facebook) and email newsletters; familiarity with multimedia; openness to exploring and utilizing new technologies to make work more collaborative and efficient; and experience with Microsoft Office, Google applications (e.g., Drive), project management and collaborative tools (e.g., Asana, Slack), and media monitoring and public relations management software (e.g., Meltwater, Muck Rack).
