We are looking for people who have:

  • Familiarity and experience with WordPress, and proficiency troubleshooting issues and training others.

  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills (written and verbal). Must be able to listen carefully, guide others, and work well with a variety of stakeholders and diverse personalities.

  • Strong organizational skills, the ability to manage and prioritize multiple projects, creative thinking, and a solution-oriented approach.

  • Knowledge of best practices in web design, information architecture, user experience, and accessibility, and familiarity with current web trends and tools.

  • The ability to leverage web analytics to drive content strategy decisions.

  • Copy editing and proofreading experience, with a strong attention to detail.

As Assistant Director, Digital Strategy you will:

  • Lead a community of web editors, providing guidance and support in the effective use of web publication tools, specifically WordPress.

  • Provide training to Harvard Law School (HLS) staff members on specific tools (including WordPress, Google Analytics, etc.)

  • Research and disseminate best practices in the digital publishing space.

  • Working in conjunction with the online team, help determine the most effective approach to the information architecture, content strategy and user experience of the HLS sites.

  • Serve as project manager for various web-related projects, providing input into feature sets and prioritization and participating in quality assurance testing.

  • Maintain advanced knowledge of WordPress and current standards for web usability, design, browser and mobile compatibility, and accessibility.

  • Develop and maintain documentation of all features and functionality of the HLS site.

  • Review and inventory web content on a regular basis, coordinating periodic user research and prototyping new solutions in WordPress as needed.

  • Working with the Harvard Accessibility Office and the online team, monitor and improve the accessibility of HLS content and serve as an accessibility liaison and resource to the HLS community.

  • Manage the posting of content to HLS dashboard pages, event listings, and digital screens, and support the publishing of other content as needed.

The Office of Communications at Harvard Law School performs a wide range of communications functions in support of HLS and its mission. This includes producing and sharing informative, engaging content and communications across multiple channels and with audiences on campus and around the globe; providing guidance to members of the HLS community; and collaborating with partners throughout the school, across the university, and beyond to share information, help foster community, and deepen the understanding of and appreciation for the work being done across HLS.

As an integral member of Harvard Law School’s Office of Communications, the Assistant Director, Digital Strategy plays a lead role in helping manage, support, and set the strategic direction for the School’s flagship website, hls.harvard.edu. The Assistant Director also serves as the coordinator of a large community of web editors, working closely with the Law School’s many departments, programs and other key constituents to provide strategic guidance and training, support the development of web properties, and identify and prioritize online needs and how best to address them.
