  • Familiarity with research, technical writing, copy-editing conventions, document layout, author rights and permissions, and fact-checking preferred

  • Experience working with authors and technical experts internationally

  • Strong Microsoft Word skills, including working in track changes and formatting (such as developing table of contents and tables)

  • Intermediate computer skills in Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint preferred

The Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health, a global leader in public health research and education, is looking for a Scientific Writer to support high-level research and administrative work at its newly opened India Research Center located in Mumbai, India. The overarching mission of the Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health is to advance the public’s health through learning, discovery, and communication. The India Research Center has three Foci: Research, Training, and Translation and Communication. The Center, established with the support from extraordinary generosity of leaders in India, is housed in Lower Parel, Mumbai with almost 4000 square feet of space for office, classroom and conference space.

The Scientific Writer will provide writing and translation support to the Director and Assistant Director of the India Research Center. Primary duties and responsibilities will include scientific writing, report writing from data analysis, assisting in writing scientific papers, the development of knowledge dissemination pieces, graphical designing and online content generation, and documenting case studies, as well as administrative support as needed. With the assistance of senior Center leaders, the Scientific Writer will play a critical role in bridging SPH's research activities and the public-at-large in India -- by translating that research into stories.

Additional duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Compiling of review summaries, report writing, editing, and assisting in writing scientific papers

  • Supporting in the development of training modules

  • Writing data-based stories and op-eds in popular press

  • Preparing translation materials such as technical briefs, fact sheets, web materials, journal abstracts, conference-related posters, videos, and photo-stories

  • Developing case studies and documenting best practices

  • Preparing conference presentation materials and other project related materials

  • Editing, formatting, designing and formatting layout, producing and/or uploading, and disseminating various communication pieces

  • Maintaining the integrity of electronic files and hard copies of administrative and manuscript files

  • Performing administrative activities as needed, such as setting up meetings, taking meeting minutes, preparing for events, etc.

  • Other related duties as assigned
