  • Strong research skills and ability to identify important information for inclusion in reports

  • Broad knowledge of academic subjects and current affairs, particularly in higher education

  • Exceptional attention to detail, accuracy, and quality

  • Excellent time management and organizational skills, with ability to prioritize work

  • Develops and regularly updates messaging/templates for digital and written acknowledgments from various signatories, including deans and directors, and messages for both individual and broad audiences.

  • Generates and reviews gift data for acknowledgment inclusion

  • Produces custom, personalized acknowledgment letters for priority donors

  • Maintains language bank of fundraising priority and acknowledgment text and messaging in the FAS Dean’s voice

  • Ensures that timely acknowledgments are produced on behalf of the FAS Dean

  • Consults with prospect managers on language and questions surrounding acknowledgments and correspondence

  • Reviews final drafts of acknowledgments

  • Manages workflow and training of additional acknowledgment writers at calendar and fiscal year end

  • Researches and drafts other gift-related correspondence for the Dean as needed, with an emphasis on timeliness and organization in a highly deadline-driven environment

  • Develops and maintains positive working relationships with the office of the Dean of the Faculty of Arts and Sciences, prospect managers, and other FAS academic and administrative offices

  • Co-monitors Dean’s development email inbox; coordinates with colleagues regarding responses; drafts correspondence and manages approvals with the Dean’s office.

  • May research and write stewardship content for impact reports

  • Uses BSR Advance, Filemaker Pro, and internet resources to conduct gift and donor research

  • May manage or contribute to special projects using Adobe Creative Suite and other software

  • Other duties as needed or required

Alumni Affairs and Development (AA&D) comprises the University Development Office (UDO), Faculty of Arts and Sciences (FAS) Development, AA&D Resources, and the Harvard Alumni Association (HAA). There is a unique relationship between the University and the FAS fundraising operations, resulting from a long history in which University fundraising ultimately grew out of College fundraising.

Faculty of Arts and Sciences (FAS) Development

FAS Development is responsible for the fundraising efforts supporting the Faculty of Arts and Sciences, including Harvard College, the Harvard John A. Paulson School of Engineering and Applied Sciences, and the Graduate School of Arts and Sciences. FAS Development staff work with Harvard College donors, alumni, parents, and friends who provide critical support for the FAS and often for other parts of the University.

The Acknowledgments Manager is responsible for the operations of the acknowledgments program, writing acknowledgment and stewardship content, maintaining updated Deans’ acknowledgments templates, ensuring that timely acknowledgments are produced on behalf of the FAS Dean, and reviewing final drafts. This position researches and drafts other gift-related correspondence for the Dean as needed. At times may also research and write stewardship content for impact reports to donors about how their gifts have been used to benefit education in the Faculty of Arts and Sciences at Harvard. This position will also track work and document donor contact and may contribute to special projects.
