AHA Consulting Engineers Intern (Fire Protection) in Burlington, Massachusetts

Working under the direction of a Senior Engineer, AHA is seeking an entry level Fire Protection intern in Burlington, MA. The successful candidate will prepare the layout and design of fire suppression and fire alarm systems for our clients. Project types include: Corporate, Academic, Science & Technology, Industrial, Mission Critical Civic & Entertainment, Healthcare, Historic Preservation & Adaptive Reuse and Mixed Use.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Consulting with Lead Engineer, prepare engineering studies and schematic design for new mechanical systems and analyze operation of existing systems
Document and review of existing Fire Suppression and Fire Alarm Systems based on site investigations.
Coordinate Fire Suppression and Fire Alarm Systems with other building systems and other discipline design requirements.
Complete engineering calculations for Fire Suppression and Fire Alarm System Design.
Research equipment selection from catalogs, under direction of engineer
Possess general understanding of applicable building codes, consults with engineer regarding building code requirements
Participate and develop company design production standards
Promote and use company design production standards
Handle multiple projects with efficiency and accuracy
Receive and follow through with specific or technical instructions
Participate and contribute to a team efforts, exchanging ideas and recommending improvements
Attend client meetings, as necessary
Visit sites, as required
Position Qualifications (Required)
- Currently enrolled in fire protection degree granting program
Position Qualifications (Preferred)
Experience in Fire Protection or Sprinkler contractor
Skillful use and understanding of AutoCAD and Revit
Proficient in MS Office Suite, including advanced Excel skills and use of Microsoft Office Teams
Engineering experience at an MEP firm, including internship
Fundamental knowledge of Fire Protection systems concepts and design
Understanding and knowledge of applicable codes
Fundamental knowledge of mechanical concepts
Ability to read blueprints, schematics and engineering drawings
High degree of analytical skill and ability
