BAE Systems FAST Labs leads the way with opportunities for tackling the Defense and Intelligence Communities hardest problems with innovative software and hardware solutions. FAST Labs, the research arm of BAE Systems Electronic Systems, is searching for a Strategy Director to lead and manage strategic initiatives for the Autonomy, Processing, and Exploitation (APEX) product line. The successful Strategy Director will use their research and development, and business management experience to create and manage initiatives that improve how the product line identifies, develops, and transitions discriminating capabilities into BAE Systems products. The APEX Strategy Director will focus on improving how the product line performs 1) mission analysis, modeling & simulation, and digital engineering, 2) identification of autonomy and processing CRAD customer market trends to focus the product line's strategic opportunity filter, while increasing the overall opportunity pipeline, 3) execution of integration, test, and demonstration efforts for advanced, complex, autonomous processing systems, and 4) planning, coordinating, and facilitating the transition of developed technologies into products of the other Electronic Systems Business Areas.

The Strategy Director role is a key leadership position within the APEX Product Line. In this role you will work closely with your peers and collaborate with other product lines and business areas to improve the efficiency and impact of APEX research. This role reports directly to the APEX Product Line Director.

To expand the experience base of our current team, we are particularly interested in individuals with broad experience across BAE Systems (or a similar organization), who understand how to apply critical thinking to improve the innovation velocity of a team already comprising of technical and business experts.

This position can be based out of any of the following FAST Labs sites: Burlington, MA, Merrimack, NH, Arlington, VA, or Durham, NC. This is a hybrid position that supports a flexible on-site / work-from-home balance.

Because this role involves a combination of collaborative/in-person and independent work, it will take the form of a hybrid work format , with time split between working onsite and remotely.

Pursuant to a government contract, this specific position requires US citizenship status.

Required Education, Experience, & Skills

  • Typically a Bachelor s Degree with greater than 12 years of professional experience, or a Master s Degree and greater than 10 years of professional experience or a Doctorate and greater than 5 years of professional experience

  • Experience leading the design, development and implementation of novel, state-of-the-art solutions to complex technical problems.

  • Ability to defines, propose, and leads independent research and development.

  • Strong desire to collaborate with internal/external customers to align initiatives to business goals.

  • Works directly with CRAD and product customers to understand their market trends, and program concepts.

  • Experience providing technical and management leadership to a diverse team of scientists, engineers, and managers.

  • Experience leading advanced prototype development programs that include requirements analysis, modeling & simulation, software and hardware integration, test, and demonstration.

  • Experience converting maturing technology into business area impact.

  • Eligible for US Top Secret/SCI Security Clearance

  • Must already possess a minimum of a US DoD Secret Clearance

  • US Citizenship is required

Preferred Education, Experience, & Skills

  • Strong technical expertise in at least one of the following: autonomy, sensor processing, and/or signal exploitation.

  • Experience as technical lead of DARPA, IARPA or government lab R&D programs.

  • Broad technical network from key Universities and Research Institutions

  • Network of key stakeholders across BAE Systems Business Areas.

  • Management of staff resources and financial responsibility

  • Experience as leader/manager of R&D project team

  • Active US Top Secret/SCI Security Clearance

  • Experience driving cross-organizational collaboration initiatives
