Oracle Director, Competitive Intelligence – Application Development and Java in Burlington, Massachusetts

Development and implementation of business plans, marketing strategy, and forecasts for a product/service or vertical market.

As a product analyst you will participate in every stage of the product life cycle to ensure product meets the needs of users. Drive the implementation of programs in support of the marketing strategy, business plans, and forecasts for assigned product lines. Maintains current status of customer specifications for existing and future products. Identify, evaluate, and recommend marketing opportunities in support of product line objectives. Drive product functionality delivering high quality product documentation. Lead products through scheduled release assisting others to manage commitments and resources. Measure and report progress and review deliverables.

Leading contributor individually and as a team member, providing direction and mentoring to others. Work is non-routine and very complex, involving the application of advanced technical/business skills in area of specialization. Demonstrated product/project management experience. This is a remote/office based position which may be performed anywhere in the United States except for within the state of Colorado.

ABOUT THE TEAM

Oracle Competitive Intelligence is a critical enabling component that helps marketing and sales to be more effective against our competition. We provide timely and meaningful insights, competitive assets as well as sales support against key competitors such as Amazon Web Services, Microsoft Azure, Google Cloud Platform, IBM/Red Hat, and others.

ABOUT THE ROLE

The purpose of this role is to provide leadership and expertise in application development (AppDev) and Java competitive analysis to uncover and articulate Oracle's competitive advantage, with the ultimate goal of enabling more deals to be won against the competition. The successful candidate for this position will be viewed as the subject matter expert (SME) for AppDev and Java (OpenJDK) in both cloud and on-premises environments.

This position requires self-initiated deep competitive research skills and analysis of competitors' product features based on publicly available information and requires extensive familiarity with AppDev tools and platforms (including low-code/no-code development and DevOps) and Java (OpenJDK) competitors. Emphasis will be analysis content, messaging and sales tools creation, sales enablement, and deal support. It is a senior-level position, and requires regular collaboration with field sales specialists, product marketers, and product managers, and may be asked to occasionally provide analysis and present to senior management.

The ideal candidate is a self-starter who will independently own, prioritize, and drive timely and quality analysis in his or her subject area of focus. S/he will possess strong analytical traits, deep knowledge of AppDev and Java (OpenJDK) products, services, and trends, and the ability to translate (both verbally and in writing) technical features to business value as a means of differentiating Oracle from its competition. The AppDev CI analyst will also work closely with other CI specialists who focus on related products/solutions. S/he will also be responsible for staying current on the latest product details and announcements of both competitor and Oracle offerings.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Deep and ongoing competitive research and analysis of AppDev platforms and Java competitors' strategy, with a focus on the delivery of accurate, timely, and contextual analysis as a subject matter expert (SME).

  • Provide meaningful competitive insights, messaging, sales tools, training, and consultative engagement to serve the needs of marketing and sales with defensible analysis/proof points and positioning of Oracle products and solutions favorably against the competition.

  • Ongoing tracking and analysis of key AppDev (including low-code/no-code development and DevOps) and Java (OpenJDK) competitors, and emerging competitive threats and trends.

  • Develop, present, and maintain regular training for global and regional field sales organizations.

  • Function as an internal consultant to other Oracle organizations such as product marketing, field marketing, product management, and executives to provide insight relative to the competitive landscape, deep SME of competitors (company, business, and product-level), and advise on take-out campaigns, marketing content, product requirements, etc.

  • Help to facilitate a single CI community and single channel to market across all global regions. Educate partners on key information resources available.

PREFERRED SKILLS & EXPERIENCE

  • 5 years of recognized competitive analysis skills focused in the areas of AppDev and Java (OpenJDK) including understanding of customer needs and business goals.

  • Prior relevant experience in competitive intelligence/analysis will receive strongest consideration. Previous AppDev and Java product sales, industry analyst, product management, or product marketing background strongly preferred.

  • Deep knowledge of the AppDev (including low-code/no-code development and DevOps) and Java (OpenJDK) competitive landscape is required.

  • Ability to provide market level or strategic level analysis for senior executives is also important as this role may occasionally require presentation to senior management.

  • Ability to prioritize multiple simultaneous projects/deliverables to successful completion (i.e., in a quality and timely manner) is a key requirement.

  • Strong interpersonal skills / excellent writing and analysis skills / strong verbal communication

  • Analytical and a strategic thinker / energetic and enthusiastic / self-starter and team player.

  • Proven ability to work with Sales, Product Marketing, Product Management, and present to Executives.

  • BA/BS degree in business, technology or research is minimally required. Master’s degree is preferred, but demonstrated experience can be substituted.
