Dana-Farber Cancer Institute Assistant Director, Principal & Major Gifts in Brookline, Massachusetts
The Assistant Director of Principal and Major Gifts will report directly to the Assistant Vice President of Principal and Major Gifts, and bear primary responsibility for building a pipeline and individual portfolio of prospects with capacity of $100K+. His/her primary focus will be on identifying, qualifying, and soliciting prospects for major gifts of $50K+payable over 3-5 years. He/she will also focus on the tracking and moves management for major gift prospects and donors.

PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Responsible for closing major gifts and building a pipeline of major gift donors;
Focus on general pipeline and project based fundraising;
Work entrepreneurially to coordinate the tracking and moves management for a portfolio of prospects and qualify the pipeline for the Principal and Major Gifts programs;
Manage a dynamic portfolio of approximately 350 prospects with a goal of raising at least $750K-$1M annually;
Work with faculty as appropriate to identify funding priorities;
Oversee all details relating to reporting, tracking, and next steps follow-up for this dynamic portfolio with a focus on driving the solicitation process forward;
In collaboration with the Assistant Vice President, build and execute a major gift fundraising strategy;
Responsible for meeting an annual fundraising goal set with the Assistant Vice President of Principal and Major Gifts;
Conduct 10 – 12 donor visits a month;
Perform special projects, donor tours, and faculty meetings as assigned.
Reports to the Assistant Vice President of Principal and Major Gifts.
MINIMUM JOB QUALIFICATIONS:
Bachelor’s degree with 5-8 years of Major Gift or leadership level Annual Fund experience required.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:
A strategic thinker with significant donor experience, excellent planning, verbal and written communication, and organizational skills are necessary. Effectiveness in working with wide audiences (including highest level of Dana-Farber constituencies) and strong customer service will be key. Flexible to act as a Dana-Farber generalist to encourage pipeline prospects to get involved in ways outside of major gifts. Solid working knowledge of Microsoft Office suite required. Volunteer management experience preferred. Candidate with an entrepreneurial approach to fundraising desired.
Office in typical office setting conditions. Some evening and weekend work may be required. Some use of personal vehicle for business purposes may be required.
