Boston Properties VP, Investor Relations in Boston, Massachusetts

Primary Purpose of Position:

Lead the strategic planning, direction and execution of the Company’s IR program. Communicate the company’s business strategy and performance to shareholders and equity analysts. Direct and manage all aspects of investor communication including investor presentations, press releases, conferences, property tours and meetings. Responsible for the creation of investor content including investor presentations, earnings releases, the IR section of the Company’s website and the Company’s annual report to communicate the strategic direction, performance and vision of the Company to external constituents.

Essential Functions:

Core Responsibilities

  • Key adviser to CEO, President, CFO, and other senior leaders in regard to all aspects of the investor relations strategy, investor and analyst sentiment and key messaging. Partner with senior management to support current and future programs.

  • Develop and manage relationships within the investment community and serve as a trusted resource responsible for representing the Company and articulating the Company’s business strategy and financial performance.

  • Develop, manage, and execute all investor events; earnings calls, non deal roadshows, property tours and investor conferences.

  • Develop messaging, direct workflow, and source data from all communication pillars in regard to major announcements, investor meetings and quarterly earnings results and conference calls and update presentations to reflect current messaging as well as current business and financial information.

  • Analyze the company’s shareholder base and develop targeting and communication strategies to expand that base to a broader audience of investors

  • Manage and leverage the company’s relationship external service providers to provide analysis of company performance and shareholder information.

  • Understand current and emerging business trends and articulate the Company’s business strategy to shareholders and analysts.

  • Ensure consistency of investor messages and corporate positioning.

  • Prepare the Senior Leadership Team for investor meetings, road shows, earnings calls

  • Monitor, analyze and synthesize peer business and financial performance.

  • Advise senior level management with confidence, counsel management on shareholder reaction to company results, capital decisions and strategic initiatives.

  • Partner with financial reporting, corporate legal teams and marketing to create corporate press releases including transactional and earnings releases.

  • Respond to Investor Relations phone inquires, email inquires and BXP web site requests.

    Investor Communications

  • Compile data to support financial communication efforts and respond to inquiries from shareholders, investors and analysts.

  • Serve as a resource of information for investors and analysts and proactively understand their needs, create strategies to enhance outreach, and manage conferences and meetings with management.

  • Oversee property tours, one-on-one and group meetings; maintain a schedule of future investor meetings & events and disseminate to regional and executive management.

  • Manage the investor relations portion of the Company website.

  • Monitor and record contact with institutional investors.

  • Analyze effectiveness of initiatives aimed at investors and analysts through surveys and assessment of changes in equity holdings

  • Participate in development of strategy and business overview sections of 10Q and 10K documents

  • Support financially related media information requests.

  • Distribute press releases over wire service, manage disclosure to NYSE and to IR-related distribution lists.

    Internal Communications

  • Prepare and distribute periodic investor and stock metric & performance updates to management and Board of Directors.

  • Participate in preparing materials and presenting to the Board of Directors, as needed, regarding the Company’s investor relations strategy, investor sentiment, analyst perceptions, as well as peer analysis and financial performance.

  • Develop quarterly reports to the Board of Directors on company performance, analyst and shareholder sentiment, and changes in shareholder base.

  • Distribute press releases to executive management and the Board of Directors.

  • Maintain an annual budget and develop an annual plan for the company’s investor relations program.

  • Develop relationships and manage contracts with IR service providers.

  • Provide guidance to regional leadership and guide the preparation of materials for regional investor presentations and property tours.

    Requirements and Qualifications:

  • A BA/BS degree is required. A Bachelor’s degree in Marketing or Communication strongly preferred.

  • A minimum of 8+ years of progressively responsible experience in a similar position with a public company, real estate experience preferred but not required.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

  • Proven ability to represent the Company and its management externally and internally with credibility and poise, adhering to all disclosure regulations.

  • Knowledge of SEC requirements and various regulations preferred.

  • Proven experience in creating power point presentations, preparing business correspondence, summaries and reports.

  • Demonstrated commitment to and proficiency in customer service culture.

  • Proven ability to manage multiple and/or simultaneous priorities, work under pressure while achieving deadlines, and maintain calm demeanor in deadline-oriented, time sensitive situations.

  • Travel is required – approximately 15% per calendar year.

  • Flexibility with schedule and ability to work beyond regular business hours.

    Physical Requirements:

  • Involves work of a general office nature usually performed sitting such as operation of a computer.

  • Involves work of a general office nature usually performed standing such as operation of a fax and printer.

  • Involves movement between departments to facilitate workflow.

    Internal and External Contacts:

  • Interfaces regularly with external investors, shareholders, consultants and vendors.

  • Interfaces regularly with all levels of employees within Boston Properties.

    Reporting Structure:

  • This position reports to the EVP, Chief Financial Officer who provides supervision, guidance and evaluation of work performance on a periodic basis.
