About the Visual Design Lead Position
Job Description:
Verndale is seeking a dynamic Visual Design Lead to join its growing practice. Reporting to the VP of Experience Design, the Visual Design Lead is responsible for creating pixel-perfect executions across digital platforms – making every online interaction between a brand and its customers beautiful, frictionless and valuable. The right candidate will not only be an excellent digital designer with an impressive portfolio of web and mobile work, but will be a strong, positive presence, and a persuasive seller of creative thinking. In short, you have jazz hands, and you’re not afraid to use them.
The Visual Design Lead must be a creative thinker who is able to work independently and collaboratively with other members of the Experience Design team to ensure designs are consistent with Verndale’s high standards for aesthetics, usability, and accessibility. The work requires a strong understanding of user-centric, web design principles with a consistent focus on user experience best practices. Ideal applicants will have experience with Responsive Web Design (RWD) and the ability to design web sites for mobile use.
Responsibilities:
Lead discovery workshops with clients to surface critical brand, user, and business needs and/or collaborate on design approach
Translate client business requirements, user needs, and technical requirements into designs that are visually enticing, easy to use, and emotionally engaging
Develop design systems that are able to work on multiple devices and within modular CMS platforms
Communicate ideas and concepts clearly, concisely, and persuasively to clients and the internal team
Work closely with Project and Experience Design teams to understand and translate requirements
Maintain current, relevant knowledge of user design trends, standards, and techniques
Develop and maintain visual design libraries and UX pattern libraries for consistent design
Effectively communicate with developers and other project team members through the implementation phase to realize design vision
Act as a resource and thought partner to colleagues
Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in graphic design, visual communication, or related field
5+ years professional experience in responsive and mobile web design
Strong web design/visual design, layout, and typography skills with excellent attention to detail
The ability to push and bend brand guidelines without breaking them
Expert in Sketch or Figma
Proficient in Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, and InDesign
Affinity for current industry developments, design trends, and technologies
Ability to react well to design direction and feedback from both team and clients
Well organized, responsible and dedicated, with the ability to work on multiple projects and deliver refined design in a short time
