State Street US Benefits Strategy and Design Manager, VIce President in Boston, Massachusetts

The US Benefits Strategy and Design Manager is part of the Global Benefits Design team and is responsible for the strategic leadership, oversight and management of the company’s US benefit programs and retirement plans. The individual in this role must have strong technical knowledge, communication and presentation skills, and excellent organizational capabilities. The ideal candidate will be a thought leader with regard to US benefits, have the ability to think critically, have a strong financial analysis background and project management experience, and must work effectively with limited direction.

Specific responsibilities include:

COMPENSATION: Base Pay $155,000 plus Bonus Opportunity

  • Responsible for overall management of all US qualified and non-qualified retirement plans, health and welfare benefit programs, leave of absence policies, and other benefit programs and policies
  • Oversight of external consultants and US benefits vendors
  • Supporting the Head of Global Benefits Design in the development of both short and long term benefits strategies and providing US-specific recommendations to support State Street’s employee value proposition
  • Partner with the internal Finance team on management of plan financials and internal budget projections
  • Oversee large-scale projects or programs, including RFPs and transitions to new vendors to drive State Street’s benefits strategy while improving efficiency and managing costs
  • Effectively partner and collaborate with internal partners including, but not limited to, Benefits Delivery, Finance, GHR Shared Services and Payroll, Legal, Procurement, Global Mobility, etc. to ensure a more seamless experience for employees
  • Oversee benefits-related tasks for US merger & acquisition activity and due diligence when needed
  • Oversee benefits and retirement plan analytics to ensure plan design and strategy are aligned to metrics and benchmarks and develop appropriate strategic recommendations based on that data which effectively balance the needs of both the business and employees
  • Enhance employee benefits and retirement plan communications including standard annual communications and ad-hoc messages to ensure benefits are understood and valued
  • Organize governance committee materials such as quarterly presentations to the North America Regional Benefits Committee
  • This is an individual contributor role that will partner with resources and consultant on the larger team

General Requirements:

  • 10+ years of experience in US benefit programs including in-depth knowledge of retirement plans (qualified and non-qualified) and health and welfare benefit programs, as well as regulations such as ERISA, COBRA, HIPAA, Section 125, PPACA, 401(k), etc.
  • Excellent analytical and problem solving skills and an in depth financial analysis background are critical for success
  • Strong presentation and project management skills, attention to detail, and an ability to communicate effectively throughout all levels of the organization
  • Previous actuarial, underwriting or consulting experience strongly preferred
  • Exceptional Microsoft Office skills, with a focus on Excel and PowerPoint, and a strong technical aptitude
  • Bachelor’s degree in Management, Finance, Mathematics, Economics, or equivalent
