Job summary

The Red Hat Customer Content Services team is looking for a Technical Writer to our Red Hat Ceph Storage product documentation team in Boston, MA. In this role, you will work on far more than documentation. You will join a team that maintains their own source control repositories, manages their own testing, building and deployment software, and works closely with Engineering teams to develop working code examples. You'll also contribute to both upstream documentation and software projects, help lead the direction and content of Ceph documentation, participates in customer feedback programs to ensure customer relevancy of our content, and devote time to researching and understanding the solution as well as related trends and topics in microservices. As a Technical Writer, you’ll promote customer loyalty and success through content development and delivery. We create and are responsible for the feature documentation, user guides, and premium content that accompany Red Hat offerings, which will be made available online through Red Hat's customer portal. You'll work closely with developers, engineers, and other subject matter experts to create content that helps our customers successfully use our offerings and solutions.

Primary job responsibilities

  • Work closely with content strategists, engineering project teams, product management, support teams, and other stakeholders to create and maintain high-quality documentation for upcoming releases of Red Hat's offerings

  • Effectively manage documentation projects and deliver customer-focused documentation

  • Engage and collaborate with customer feedback programs to address content gaps, respond to direct customer feedback, and promote continuous improvement of the documentation experience

  • Keep up to date on changes of our offerings, customer use cases, and support issues

  • Master the use of our internal documentation toolchain, including the publishing platform and issue-tracking tools

Required skills

  • Experience with information architecture or 3-5 years of enterprise-level technical writing experience

  • Familiarity with Red Hat's solutions and related industry offerings

  • Experience with software development life cycle, including planning, development, and maintenance

  • Familiarity with version control systems

  • Familiarity with Markdown, AsciiDoc, DocBook, restructured text

  • Experience with virtual machines and containers

  • Ability to collaborate in a global team environment, engage subject matter experts, and follow through on commitments

  • Working knowledge and experience operating in a Linux environment using the command line and CLI tools

  • Ability to read, write, and compile technical documents, including feature descriptions, customer use cases, and release notes using industry best practices

  • Experience in writing clear and concise procedural documentation for a technical audience

The following are considered a plus:

  • Experience with Agile and comfort with rapid iteration and fast delivery

  • Knowledge of modular and topic-based documentation

  • Familiarity with storage solutions, like Red Hat Ceph Storage

  • Familiarity with cloud solutions, like Red Hat OpenStack and OpenShift by Red Hat

  • Knowledge of documenting RESTful APIs

  • Experience writing cross-product integration

  • Experience using Git and with GitHub and GitLab
