Oracle Technical Product Manager / Strategy in Boston, Massachusetts

Job Description

Lead a team that acts as the central resource and driving force for the design, process, manufacturing, test, quality and marketing of product(s) as they move from conception to distribution. Organize interdepartmental activities ensuring completion of the project/product on schedule and within budget.

As a member of the product development division, you will analyze and integrate external customer specifications. Suggest and justify product directions and specifications. Specify, design and implement moderate changes to existing software architecture. Build new products and development tools. Build and execute unit tests and unit test plans. Review integration and regression test plans created by QA. Communicate with QA and porting engineering to discuss major changes to functionality.

Work is non-routine and very complex, involving the application of advanced technical/business skills in area of specialization. Leading contributor individually and as a team member, providing direction and mentoring to others. BS or MS degree or equivalent experience relevant to functional area. 7 years of software engineering or related experience.

Global Business Units (GBU)

Oracle’s Global Business Units is seeking a Technical Product Manager for a mission critical division of the organization. The GBU’s acquire, develop and operate Oracle’s Industry Specific solutions, reaching across 98 different industry units and well over 50 distinct products. The role involves defining requirements and enablement for our shared services portfolio that our customers (GBU development teams) will use to accelerate development of their cloud services and improve developer productivity. The shared services portfolio includes the following: ML and analytics services, shared application services, application development frameworks (front and back-end) and associated tooling, all built on Oracle’s Platform as a Service (PaaS), and Infrastructure as a service (IaaS).

The role will also include working with Oracle Industry product teams to migrate their existing solutions to shared infrastructure (often including complex migrations). In addition, you will also provide product guidance for feature requirements as our customers (Oracle Industry teams) remake their product portfolios to fully cloud native products and modernize their user experience workflows. The position will report to a Senior Technical Product Manager building a team to manage and coordinate GBU adoption and uptake of the tools, frameworks, patterns, and services our organization delivers to accelerate customer software delivery. The Technical Product Manager role is responsible for engaging with GBU Development and Product Managers and Oracle teams across the company to accelerate development and to enhance the developer experience.

Typical Duties and Responsibilities include:

  • Drive engagements with internal Oracle Industry teams to address critical business requirements of our customers.

  • Assess customer (GBU) product objectives and/or current product portfolio and recommend repeatable patterns and shared services that will be used by multiple GBUs.

  • Manage competing, quickly changing priorities effectively and handle input from many internal and external collaborators and stakeholders.

  • Structure and execute product plans for projects (roadmap, use cases, functional and non-functional requirements, etc.) by leveraging our organization’s technical patterns, frameworks, and recommended architecture.

  • Closely collaborate with peers, including architects and senior development leads, and a variety of teams and groups in a highly dynamic environment.

  • Identify common pain points in Oracle products and solutions and propose practical alternatives to improve them.

  • Establish relationships and feedback channels into multiple product management and product engineering organizations, ultimately resulting in product improvements and innovations.

The selected candidate will play a Technical Product Manager role with strong tracking and reporting skills, basic understanding of several cloud technologies and products, and has a sense for market trends and emerging technologies and tools within and outside of Oracle’s portfolio.

A successful applicant will have a thorough understanding of communication and be able to effectively communicate with management, customers, and the members of the team knowing that the audience will range from those who have very limited understanding of technology to those who are on the world forefront of Cloud solutions and ecosystems.

The Technical Product Manager must have communication skills (both written and verbal) with the ability to effectively communicate with customers, succinctly articulate business impacts, translate technical information into layperson and business terms, and concisely ‘storyboard’ complex problems, solutions, and approaches for the customer and management. In addition, the Technical Product Manager role will need to document and present frameworks, templates, and high-quality pragmatic deliverables that can be shared with project teams to define the scope of work for project engagements.

Desired Qualifications , Skills, and Experience

  • Strong requirements definition and communication skills

  • Proficient technical skills and a system wide vision including aspects of the application development and cloud ecosystem (UI technologies, application development, ML / analytics, etc.).

  • Proficient understanding of cloud architecture and hybrid on-premises / cloud designs.

  • Exposure to PaaS and IaaS products and experienced in their implementation.

  • Highly motivated, self-starter with a quick learning style and an ambition to identify customer requirements and define product solutions to delight customers

  • Analytical and critical reasoning skills capable of flexible and lateral thinking.

  • Ability to work independently and can adapt and think critically to problem solve.

  • Ability to lead technical discussions and collaborate with Oracle teams across the company.

  • Inclination to coach – through trainings, public forums, blogs, and conferences.

  • Highly developed interpersonal, verbal communication and presentation skills; demonstrated comfort level for presentations to management level meetings.

  • Work with and across multiple levels within the business to develop the “best” solution to an issue/business need required.

Basic Qualifications

  • A master’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science or related field or a bachelor’s degree and comparable experience in software development, information technology, and/or data architecture.

  • Minimum of 7 or more years of experience in progressively responsible information technology, including 2 years of application development experience.

  • Experience with product management of cloud services in the areas of PaaS, and IaaS is a plus.

  • Experience with proof-of-concept work and/or solution architecture is a plus.
