The General Manager for National Geographic Learning (NGL)–School will be responsible for leading Cengage’s business unit focused on the US K-12 market. Reporting to the Chief Operating Officer, the General Manager will lead this business unit through its transformation to maintain its market leadership in the high school and careers market, preparing secondary students for college and careers. What you'll do:
Develop and execute a winning strategy to deliver on the annual and 3-year goals for the NGL School business, based on a detailed understanding of customer needs, NGL School products, and market dynamics across the US K-12 vertical
Design the organization structure and develop the team to deliver against the NGL School strategy
Effectively lead and manage the 200-person NGL School team by clearly communicating success metrics and expectations, holding team members accountable and rewarding/recognizing goal achievement, as appropriate.
Successfully pivot the current k-12 broader portfolio to a “College and Career Readiness” focus by identifying market segmentation paths and growth opportunities within this segment
Develop market and customer segmentation that identifies market opportunities capable of delivering the growth aspirations defined in the business strategy
Work with leadership team to define the product strategy and associated content and technology strategy necessary to deliver growth within the target markets
Set and ensure successful realization against sales and budget goals
Engage in and/or lead key or targeted customer, marketing, and business development activities to support the team and deliver against growth goals; develop and manage the partnerships necessary to be successful in the US K-12 market
Collaborate effectively with Cengage functional teams and other business units to deliver on a strategy that fully leverages Cengage’s capabilities
Seek out opportunities for expansion and growth by developing new business relationships
Skills You Will Need Here:
Bachelor’s Degree and MBA preferred
15+ years of total experience with proven track record to craft and lead an organization through a digital transformation
Experience developing and using customer data to drive decision-making and focus.
Proven track record developing and delivering against digital product strategies, ideally in the US K-12 market
Prior experience leading successful organizational transformation projects.
Ability to drive a high-impact agenda with a diverse set of executives/ business partners, and the ability to drive the right change in a fluid and dynamic environment.
Able to develop strategic plans where analysis of situations or data requires an in-depth knowledge of Cengage, competitive environment, technology and economic or social implications of organization activities
Ability to challenge ideas and norms with thoughtful arguments. Is an inspiring leader who is creative and innovative in identifying solutions and persuading others to a course of action.
Highly developed analytical skills and data savvy. Strong quantitative & problem-solving toolkit
Proven success in maintaining perspective and focusing on the key priorities for the entire business
Strong interpersonal skills and emotional intelligence. Consistent track record as a good standout colleague with an understanding of how to deliver both personal and team goals.
Excellent management, coaching, and mentoring skills with the ability to effectively direct sales and field operations to improve revenues and profits.
