Cabot Corporation Sustainability Communications Manager – Boston, MA Hybrid in Boston, Massachusetts

Cabot Corporation is seeking a Sustainability Communications Manager to join the Corporate Safety Health & Environment team located at Cabot’s Corporate Headquarters in Boston, MA.

This newly created position will lead the strategic and tactical direction of Cabot’s Sustainability Communications as well as Cabot’s efforts to ensure awareness of industry leading focus on sustainability.

This is an ideal role for an individual who is a self-directed, a thought leader who excels through a hands-on approach to building and advancing strategic sustainability communications. This position also offers widespread company interaction as a strategy partner to guide various leaders, stakeholders, and segments on appropriate sustainability messaging.

As an individual contributor, this role reports into the Chief Sustainability Officer with a close working relationship with the Corporate Communications function.

This role is based at the Boston, MA, location, but is eligible to participate in Cabot’s Flexible Working Arrangement (hybrid) program.

  • The Sustainability Communications Manager plays a vital role in the management, development, and execution of communications programs to enhance and protect Cabot's reputation with various stakeholders.

  • You will be responsible for global enterprise-wide internal and external sustainability communications that drive awareness for the Cabot’s sustainability efforts, progress and ambitions and will engage a broader audience in understanding how Cabot is connected to sustainability macrotrends.

  • Support the development and implementation of strategic sustainability communication messages to various stakeholders and deliver results-focused communications strategies and tactical plans to amplify the company’s ambition and clearly define its position(s) as a thought leader within the chemical industry.

  • Produce regular, compelling sustainability-related content for different audiences, both internal and external, including, but not limited to, briefings and memos, talking points, reports, presentations, and stories related to sustainability programs and projects to meet our sustainability goals, priorities, and ambitions.

  • Own and project manage the company’s annual sustainability reporting and climate-related reports such as CDP and TCFD.

  • Work across the organization to collect relevant information and data, write and publish the reports.

  • Work closely with Sustainability Team, Corporate Communications, Investor Relations and members of senior leadership on the development and implementation of ESG communications initiatives.

  • Write and manage reviews for sustainability content; and manage content on the sustainability section of Cabot’s website and intranet.

  • Establish relationships with people most responsible for communications-related activities within the businesses and regions to strengthen message alignment.

  • Serve as a key strategic advisor to Cabot leadership, among others, in the areas of global sustainability insights and best practices, as well as risks and opportunities as they relate to Cabot’s reputation.

  • Drive communications best practices: content, approaches and distribution vehicles.

  • Evaluate, prioritize, and assess different stakeholder groups, interests, and public information requirements to inform yearly reporting enhancements.

  • Collaborate with the Sustainability team to deliver additional annual ESG disclosures to public indices and disclosure systems.

  • Lead ESG communication in the creation of content promoting sustainability policies and objectives to employees, suppliers, partners and customers with the purpose of driving engagement, reputation and delivery of sustainability.

Leveraging your experience, you will bring a depth of knowledge of Sustainability Communications:

  • Bachelor’s degree required with a concentration in communications, marketing or related field preferred.

  • 6+ years of experience developing and executing strategy for external/internal communications required.

  • Experience with external/internal communications in environmental, social and governance (ESG) programs and sustainability topics required.

  • Experience creating the sustainability communications strategy from creation to execution.

  • Ability to work independently with guidance for the most complex topics.

  • Proficiency with Microsoft applications, specifically PowerPoint. Experience Adobe applications including with Photoshop and InDesign a plus

  • Proven understanding of, and experience in, public and media relations.

Strong interpersonal skills with a proven ability to work well with internal and external stakeholders.

  • Collaborative team player that is flexible, solution-oriented, and capable of articulating complex topics.

  • Excellent verbal and written communications skills. Ability to interact with internal and external agencies as needed. Superior writing skills.

  • Strong organizational and planning skills in order to coordinate various activities simultaneously.

  • Must be comfortable working on a small team, in a fast-paced environment that requires ongoing management of multiple projects at one time.

  • Ability to manage global issues, staying on top on developing trends and themes within sustainability.

  • Must be able to meet deadlines and work with tight deadlines and competing priorities.
