ICS - Strategic Account Marketing (SAM) Manager

We are seeking an innovative, curious and results oriented account-based marketing manager responsible for the growth and retention of our top clients. This is a unique opportunity for a fearless, change agent to join our team as we transform our account marketing approach to an account-based experience (ABX) model.

SAMs are a talented team of hybrid customer success managers, marketers and go to market consultants, providing counsel for accounts leaders, industry managing partners and other colleagues. They are critical contributors to the success of Grant Thornton’s Client Program, which drives firm growth and retention by delivering a meaningful and differentiated level of benefits to our top clients.

The SAM manager is aligned with 2-3 industries and is responsible for collaborating cross-functionally to explore inventive ways to identify and optimize growth levers to create and execute strategies that enhance relationship-building and brand-building for buyers within Grant Thornton’s Client Program accounts. They use research and analytics to uncover opportunities and connections, develop account marketing plans and relationship development activities, drive national marketing programs, campaigns, investments and assets and create bespoke programs while ensuring a cohesive buyer journey.

The SAM team is a key part of the Go to Market team and is surrounded by like-minded marketers who work closely with sales and client serving teams to deliver pursuit marketing and regional marketing support.

Key responsibilities of the SAM Manager include:

  • Strategic thinker / problem solver – ability to see the big picture and drive to desired results. Deliver creative approaches, analytical, proactive, critical thinking and client and market focused. Recommendations and marketing programs focused on results and measurement.

  • Delivering best in class ABX strategies – leverage research and analytics to deliver impactful, cutting edge ABX strategies and ensure relevance and customization throughout the buyer journey for top accounts.

  • Industry alignment – work proactively with Industry Managing Partners to provide strategic input to help guide the industry plan and drive consistency within the client program. Stay informed of industry trends, monitor leading indicators and identify areas of opportunity for client program accounts and deliver industry specific buyer engagement or marketing plans.

  • Client Program growth – play a key role in supporting the success of Grant Thornton’s client program, working closely with industry leadership. This includes monitoring client program account performance and recommending strategies to ensure accounts are retained as well as growing.

  • Collaboration - work closely with the go to market, marketing and sales teams to share ideas, develop effective marketing tactics and activate marketing programs throughout the industry.

  • Consultative – provide strategic counsel to account leaders to help guide the account strategy, warm leads and identify areas of opportunity.

  • Client-centric – keep the client’s needs as the center of focus to help bring the full firm to support the client and maintain an enterprise-wide view. This includes monitoring client satisfaction and working with the team to develop retention and growth tactics.

  • Operational excellence – drive consistency in the output / deliverables leveraging process, tools / templates and technology. Strong creative thinking as well as tactical execution . Ability to juggle competing priorities.

  • Team culture – actively seek opportunities to engage with team members through meetings, projects and 1:1 opportunities to help build a culture that represents Grant Thornton’s CLEARR values.

  • A strong relationship builder with internal stakeholders, with her/his team, and with colleagues across and outside of the organization

  • Client minded and client focused, someone who depends on market and client insights to ensure we are delivering output that enhances their experience and impression of our brand

  • Metrics minded and analytical with ability to produce insights from data

  • Digitally and technically minded, able to work with and understand technologies (including CRM systems, research tools, content management tools, and the like)

  • Skilled in operations and process improvement

  • A person with high integrity, good listener, adept at collaboration who is both confident and humble

    The ideal candidate will possess:

  • Bachelor’s degree in marketing, communications, business or related discipline.

  • Minimum 8+ years of marketing or related experience; ideally 5+ years in professional services, consulting, financial services or other B2B marketing with a focus on ABX, events mgmt., relationship building/networking. Previous Big 4 experience a plus.

  • A strong foundation in writing and communications, as well as presentations, ROI reporting, and a variety of marketing functional areas (digital, social, content, design, etc).

  • Exceptional interpersonal skills, communicating well with all levels of management.

  • Demonstrated project management skills.

  • Strong attention to detail.

  • Experience with a CRM system (MS Dynamics).

  • Strong knowledge of MS (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
