    Location: UK with regular travel to US required

    1. Key Objective

    This role is accountable for the delivering Primark retail environments which are best in class within the value fashion and lifestyle sector into the US market.

    You will be responsible for looking at how to deliver the Primark global retail environment into the market in the most cost conscious way. Assessing sites on a case by case basis, utilising existing assets where appropriate to provide cost and sustainability conscious design solutions which deliver the DNA and Brand values of Primark with excellence and consistency.

  • Responsible for the look and feel of each Primark retail environment, providing design governance for the VM, Space and Construction teams to deliver best in class retail environments

  • Work with the Technical Design Team to manage US specific standards for the Guru (architectural standards) System.

  • Have full cognizance of Primark’s retail DNA and be able materially adapt it to benefit from individual site conditions whilst maintaining global retail design consistency and quality.

  • Maintain a working knowledge of long term 2D assets and signage to ensure they are integrated correctly into our estate.

  • Support the ongoing development of the low-cost model strategy, ensuring all design is in line with the budget requirements of the market and represents the Brand appropriately.

  • Support the review of navigation and design packs (signage and permanent graphics) to ensure optimal customer journey

  • Design governance for refresh/refit/resizing of stores, providing bespoke design solutions and advising on design priorities to suit project budgets.

  • Provide bespoke design solutions in line with the Brand DNA Design and budgets for new stores.

  • Support the delivery of strategic environmental enhancements to the retail space working with the design and delivery teams to value engineer global solutions in line with the budget requirements of the market whilst keeping quality within acceptable levels

  • Support the value engineering of global designs in line with the budget requirements of the market Ensuring approved new guidelines and designs are interpreted and implemented to acceptable standards.

    1. Project management
  • Create the store design sections of PBM (Board level business cases) packs, through site visits or photos, briefing meetings, layout and budget reviews to support the costing, presentation and request of capex for store works.

  • Coordination of bespoke design for flagship and enhanced stores, working with design, construction, prototyping and externals to ensure the appropriate design is delivered on time and budget.

  • Work with procurement on the sourcing and ongoing management of prototyping and design agencies within market as required

  • Management of Re-use design principles assessing each site on a case by case basis for the potential retention of existing elements. (Such a flooring, lighting, fitting rooms etc)

    1. Budget Management
  • Obtain, gain approval for design phase budgets prior to commencement of works, manage any budget increases gaining further approval pro-actively not retrospectively.

  • Be cost conscious through-out all projects, reducing capex cost where possible through management of external resources and value engineering of designs, without reducing quality below acceptable levels.

    1. Research
  • Maintain an up to date detailed knowledge of current retail design trends, customer trends and competitor developments in US market and globally

  • Maintain a current knowledge of, materials and finishes with a bias towards sustainability and ecology, to support our Primark Cares values.

    1. People
  • Develop strong working relationships with all key stakeholders

  • Manage relationships with external designers and agencies to ensure they are upskilled to new guidelines, incorporating local regulations and standards to maintain consistent global retail design.

  • Provide regular updates and take direction from Head of Store Design

  • Working with the Visual Merchandise team to deliver excellence in our retails environments

    REQUIRED EXPERIENCE and JOB Knowledge [can we reduce some of these?]

  • A Degree in Architecture or Design, or minimum 5 years of relevant experience in retail design

  • Proficiency in AutoCAD / Sketchup, Office and Adobe applications is preferential

  • Detailed knowledge of retail design and customer trends within the US market

  • Must have a high level of design skills;

  • Ability to sketch and hand draw is an advantage

  • Knowledge of manufacturing standards, materials and construction methods

  • Strong analytical skills, attention to detail, ability to trouble shoot during the course of a project

  • Strong organisational skills with a can-do attitude and excellent attention to detail

  • Ability to lead, work well as part of a team and work cross functionally with other teams to ensure successful delivery of projects

  • Proven ability in managing sensitive matters whilst ensuring all Primark information remains

  • confidential to the business.

  • Must be able to work well under tight deadlines and able to reprioritise efficiently

  • Self-starter able to work under own initiative, taking projects from start to finish

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
