Your Mission:

The Senior Director Corporate Communications & Affairs is responsible for creation and implementation of communications strategy both internally and externally. The communications team plays a significant responsibility in building and maintaining the brand reputation.

This individual is expected to work in collaboration with many Program Directors and senior stakeholders within the business in order to develop and execute communication strategies.

This individual also ensures that communications support is provided and the messages in the content stay consistent and accurately represent the business’s values and objectives, and constantly work to build the brand.

Your Commitments:

Leadership:

  • Assume a leadership role for the communications department.

  • Manage teams responsible for both internal and external communications

  • Establish the objectives and KPIs for communications function and working with other members of Global Marketing establishes techniques for measurement and optimization

  • The individual also plays the lead role of creating and developing annual strategic communication plans for the business and executes key elements of the plan

  • Play a mentorship role to the team, offering guidance and support in complex tasks, and essentially developing them to work independently with business stakeholders.

Strategy and Analytics:

  • The Sr. Director of Corporate Communications & Affairs is responsible for the creation of a business-wide communication strategy that applies to all senior leadership team members within the business. This is to ensure that every department in the business is represented and supported adequately by the communication team.

  • In addition, assess the effectiveness of the business’s communication channels and put in place measures that will test the effectiveness of communication activities in the business.

Opportunities/Innovation:

  • Grow function capability and identify other areas of opportunities. Challenge the status quo of the business and the communications department and seek out new creative opportunities to elevate the business’s brand.

Building Relationships:

  • The Sr. Director of Corporate Communications & Affairs also tasked with building relationships with all members of the senior leadership team and other key stakeholders. Develop messaging for topics including policy, culture, initiatives and other areas of strategic corporate significance as directed by executive leaders.

  • Work directly with executives and business leaders to identify needs, objectives and strategies to create effective and meaningful communications , including scripts, speeches, and presentations .

Collaborations:

  • Play an integrated role both within the global marketing team and the business functions (stakeholders). This role is highly collaborative and works cross-functionally with numerous departments of the business.

  • The Sr Director of Corporate Communications & Affairs will also collaborate with all key internal stakeholders on external and internal crisis preparation and response

  • Develop messaging for global topics including policy, culture, initiatives and other strategic areas and manage the PR agency relationships

Other Duties: The Sr.Director of Corporate Communications & Affairs also performs other duties as directed by the Senior Vice President, Global Marketing.

Your Competencies

  • Experience: The Senior Director of Corporate Communication & Affairs must have had at least 12 years experience working in a leadership position of a business where duties involved the management of comprehensive strategic communications programs. The suitable candidate will also have had proven experience in building, coaching, and mentoring a team of communications specialists and in leading the execution of communications strategies

  • Communication Skills : It is critical to have exceptional written and verbal skills. The Senior Director of Corporate Affairs oversees all the content production and presentations to be presented to SVP, Global Marketing and relevant stakeholders.

  • Leadership Skills: Possess strong leadership qualities, being able to positively influence and engage teams and inspire them to work towards a common goal and vision. Ability to face stressful and uncertain situations with calmness and composure and inspiring a team to do the same.

  • Interpersonal Skills: Must have excellent judgment and creative problem solving skills, be self motivated and proactive, possess an ability to work comfortably and efficiently in a collaborative setting, the individual must be able to offer proactive guidance to senior leadership and business stakeholders.

  • People Skills: The Sr Director of Corporate Communication & Affairs will set the tone of the content for all business communications. Must possess people skills to relate well with others in person and virtually.

Your Education & Experience:

  • Requires a minimum of 12 years of experience in a communications team, both external and internal communication, for a large organization.

  • Bachelor’s degree required; preferably in journalism, communications, public relations or marketing. A Master’s degree is a plus.

  • Experience in writing for a variety of different audiences is also desired. General journalistic or marketing experience is beneficial.

  • Prior management of complex projects and advising senior managers is also required

  • Understanding the life sciences industry is a plus.
