Thermo Fisher Scientific Sr. Director, Clinical Diagnostic Segment Leader in Boston, Massachusetts

This exciting & entrepreneurial Senior Director, Clinical role is responsible for representing the clinical market segment portfolio in our Sample Preparation business, leveraging automation and mass spec solutions in key Clinical and Diagnostic markets. This position will develop and implement global portfolio strategies, define the innovation roadmap and go-to-market approach, drive innovative solutions to overcome customer challenges across each step of the supply chain, provide market leadership in the development of innovative products and lead product life cycle to maximize both top line growth and profitability. The successful individual must have a good grasp on the customer's applications and should be proficient in executing day-to-day tasks in addition to long-term planning activities.

What will you do?

  • Lead and manage the strategy, product and portfolio life cycle to drive adoption and exceed revenue goals for Clinical Research and Dx applications. Responsible for five-year product line strategy, list pricing and margin optimization, management across the customer value continuum.

  • Develop and own clinical product roadmap and registration programs globally for positioning and go-to-market strategies to meet AOP and strategic financial goals, which includes identifying, establishing and managing strategic relationships with customers and industry opinion leaders.

  • Partners with commercial operations team to ensure the successful commercialization of new products.

  • Devise and implement organizational strategies and processes to position the business for growth and scale, developing relevant business cases and recommending required investments to drive sustainable growth. Proven ability to independently drive innovation.

  • Serve as business champion for segment workflows, driving strategic alignment with internal stakeholders, regional teams, and directly with key accounts.

  • Leverage business development to develop optimal licensing, partnership, and acquisition strategies to address gaps and supplement the existing product portfolio.

  • Lead a high performing team by hiring, engaging and developing talented and motivated employees.

  • Strong executive presence; capability to influence and promote enthusiasm via excellent communications skills.

  • Strong execution – demonstrated success working in a global, matrixed-environment; managing worldwide supply, demand, revenue, margin and pricing for product portfolio; updating and presenting business analysis regularly to management, finance, and manufacturing teams. Proven ability to organize and drive diverse cross functional teams to create product, technology, and/or service solutions under tight timeframes.

  • Prepare executive level material for division level business reviews, customer presentations, executive reviews, employee and customer meeting

How will you get here?

Education

  • MBA, MS or University Degree (PhD) or equivalent in Chemistry, Biochemistry or related science strongly preferred; equivalent combination of education and experience in clinical, health care and life sciences field also considered.

Experience

  • 10+ years’ experience in roles spanning across business development, Commercial, R&D, Sales, or Marketing.

  • 5+ years of people management and business leadership.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities

  • Deep understanding of IVD product portfolios with demonstrated results in driving development and/or commercialization of regulated products.

  • Proven experience bringing a clinical product to market.

  • Comfortable setting a strategic direction for a new/high growth business.

  • Strong analytical & strategic thinking skills used to analyze market trends, conducts markets research/intelligence gathering, analyze business performance data allowing for accurate trend assessments and forecasting.

  • Strong track record of proactively driving programs forward with a focus on financial results.

  • Demonstrated ability to drive growth through product innovation.

  • Ability to work across matrixed environment; effective at influencing others and building relationships with a collaborative approach.

  • Comfortable with ambiguity and able to quickly to adjust to changes in the market as needed.

  • Ability to build, manage, and inspire teams.

  • Excellent leadership and communication skills.
