Humana Senior Product Manager in Boston, Massachusetts

Description

The API Product Manager will oversee the planning, development, deployment, and overall success of Humana's new Enterprise APIs. They will interact with several teams to understand the current state of internal APIs to develop a strategy for building new contextualized APIs across multiple disparate products. This will include the development of a common set of standards for the APIs that dictate contracts, supported authentication mechanisms, filtering, etc. They will also evangelize the API strategy and standards to internal teams to ensure buy-in across the organization.

Ultimately, the API Product Manager will be the primary customer advocate for the Enterprise APIs and will define a strategy to ensure that their needs are met to ensure adoption. Along with interfacing with internal developers, the API Product Manager will coordinate with other Product Managers to understand internal business requirements and communicate the importance of maintaining and improving the APIs over time. They will also work with and support a cross functional team including stakeholders from QA, Documentation, Business, Customer Care, and IT. Their success will be measured by their ability to design and develop product functionality that helps create and support innovative products

Responsibilities

*Essential Duties and Responsibilities: *

  • Must have fundamental understanding of key API concepts to define and design foundational API contracts

  • Meet with key stakeholders to understand the current state of internal APIs and requirements for future public APIs

  • Meet with customers and partners and understand their use cases for an Enterprise API

  • Define common API standards across multiple teams and products to ensure a similar internal/external developer experience when interacting with our APIs.

  • Understand trends within the API industry to influence our internal API strategy, including the adoption of new frameworks, styles, or technologies

  • Ensure that Enterprise APIs can be consumed by external developers who are not experts in business logic or API development

  • Manage and collaborate with a team of developers to ensure product requirements are met

  • Evangelize API standards across internal teams to ensure buy-in by communicating benefits of adhering to common standards across multiple teams

  • Define priorities for new API product development to ensure that the team is working on the right things in the right order.

  • Ability to lead several complex projects simultaneously 

  • Demonstrated knowledge of all phases of product life cycle   

*Requirements: *

The ideal candidate will possess a bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with a major in Computer Science preferred, or a certificate from a technical training institute. The position requires: 

  • At least five years of experience developing APIs and/or experience utilizing APIs to build integrations, interfaces, or applications.

  • Effective listening, communication (verbal and written) and presentation skills 

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills  

  • Has demonstrated the ability to collaborate and has had successful interactions across departments and with customers 

  • Effective time management and ability to adapt quickly to changing priorities   

  • The ability to work under pressure to meet deadlines, both as an individual and as part of a team 

  • A passion for technology 

  • Familiarity with Microsoft Office Suite (preferred) or similar productivity suite 

  • Knowledge of architecture in the API space/industry and can be trusted to help guide product direction to ensure the best possible outcomes.

  • The ability to think outside of the box and present creative solutions to development challenges

  • Experience in developing within the Agile framework (Scrum, Kanban, SAFe, etc.)     

Additional Information

Will report to Associate Director, Product Management, IT TA - Enterprise Architecture

For this job, associates are required to be fully COVID vaccinated (preferred) or undergo weekly COVID testing and wear a face covering while at work. The weekly testing will need to be done through an approved Humana vendor, and unvaccinated associates should follow all social distancing and masking protocols if they are required to come into a Humana facility or work outside of their home.
