Job Specific Skills

The Manager, Marketing and Communications is a key member of the Marketing and Communications Team. The Manager will primarily be responsible for assisting management in planning and creating strategies, tactics, activities, and materials to support the Company’s existing marketing plan inclusive of marketing, branding, media and public relations, and marketing-related customer relationship and engagement activities.

  • Plan, implement and manage marketing and communications plan to support the organization's mission, goals and objectives, including positioning, and market and competitive analysis

  • Create and execute innovative marketing and public relations strategies, including both traditional and social media including creation of content for external communications including web content, sell sheets, blog posts, and articles as needed

  • Manage all aspects of external marketing and communications, including branding, advertising, development and maintenance of collateral materials

  • Manage marketing campaigns with a metrics driven approach including providing periodic updates to leadership and business development on progress, and partnering to refine plans, update strategies to align with emerging business needs Manage the organization’s websites including supporting SEO

  • Serve as a marketing contact for strategic partner projects, working closely with the business development team to grow business opportunities

  • Ensure consistency of key messages and brand identity according to company brand identity guidelines

  • Manage and support company functions for marketing and business development (tradeshows, conferences, etc.) to ensure compliance with style, brand and communications policies and guidelines

  • Assist with content development for external social media accounts and management of accounts.

  • Development and management of the annual marketing plan and budget including tracking ROI on marketing spend.

  • Manage and support marketing and communications team, ensuring positive teamwork environment and growth opportunities. Where necessary, source and manage the use of external resources (e.g., public relations firms, advertising and marketing agencies, photographers, printers, digital media experts, graphic designers, among others)

Continuously works on expanding the network of contacts within the current and potential customers.

  • Impact : Spends the majority of time (50% or more) achieving organizational objectives through the coordinated achievements of subordinate staff. Establishes departmental goals and objectives, functions with autonomy. Manages the accountability and stewardship of human, financial, and often physical resources in compliance with departmental and organizational goals and objectives. Ensures subordinate supervisors and professionals adhere to defined internal controls. Manages systems and procedures to protect departmental assets. Provides input to functional or departmental strategy.

  • Innovation/ Continuous Improvement: Continuously stays abreast of industry innovation trends and contributes ideas on organizational alignment with these trends. As a technical expert, identifies customers' struggling moments and contributes to the innovation opportunities internally in order to offer solutions to the customers. Actively supports organizational innovation initiatives.

  • Discretion/Latitude : Controls resources and policy formation in area of responsibility. Decisions are guided by resource availability and functional objectives. Maintains high level of confidentiality related to confidential project information and colleagues information. Identifies gaps in processes and guides policy development to address gaps. Provides guidance to Associate Manager and Manager I to assist with decision making.

  • Problem Solving : Identifies applications of functional knowledge and existing methodologies to complex problems.

  • Communication : Establishes communication best practices as it relates to communicating with customers and internal stakeholders at every level, and ensures alignment with the team. Presents at the expert webinars and company-wide meetings. Communicates in a positive and consistent way that aligns with the organizational objectives, decisions, and direction. Escalates issues and concerns and suggests solutions through the appropriate leadership channels.

  • Talent Management/ Supervision/ Mentorship : Manages large, potentially technically-diverse teams of managers and/or senior professionals. Provides leadership to managers and individual contributors. Has accountability for the performance and results of multiple related units. Develops departmental/service level plans, including resource and project planning, operational and/or organizational priorities. Provides input to functional or departmental strategy through engaging the team.

  • Resource Management : Responsible for managing resourcing for existing projects and project pipelines. Independently identifies resource needs (skills, level of expertise, required time commitment) and ensures alignment with team specific projects and project pipeline. Provides input into project growth opportunities and resource management strategy to support growth at the Service Level.

  • Quality and Quantity of Work : Develops effective KPIs and scoreboard to ensure team's engagement as it relates to achieving on-time quality deliverables for the customer. Effectively manages customer expectations related to timeline and deliverables.


  • College graduate in marketing, communications, business or related field, or related experience.

  • 8+ years of marketing and communications experience, covering areas such as strategy, branding, website content, and/or public relations.

  • Ability to take knowledge and transform it into exciting and useful messages, and disseminate it to the right audiences through the best distribution channels.

  • Experience in the pharmaceutical or CRO industry.

  • Excellent Internet, verbal & written communication skills are highly desired.

  • Ability to anticipate and effectively resolve potential problems and client demands.

  • Exhibits an attention to detail, high energy, flexibility, and the ability to multi-task.

  • Highly collaborative style; experience developing and implementing communications strategies.

  • Proficiency with MS Office applications.

  • Works well in a fast-paced environment.

  • Excellent organizational, communication and project management skills.

  • Familiarity with current ISO 9001 and ISO 27001 standards preferred.

  • Familiarity with 21 CFR Part 11, FDA, and GCP requirements.
