The Sr. Manager of Global Compensation plays a key role in the Global Compensation Center of Excellence (CoE), and is responsible for managing Bain’s global compensation program. You will be responsible for global compensation programs including the design, guidance and administration to ensure the programs are competitive and effective in meeting Bain’s business and talent objectives. You will apply your expertise in compensation fundamentals (e.g., market pricing, compensation structures, etc.), broad understanding of economic environment and trends in compensation, and bring innovative design and systems thinking to develop and manage solutions. This role is also the global lead on the compensation review cycle for Global/Regional services roles and partners with local office HR for the local business function roles.

This role will work across Bain’s businesses, geographies and key stakeholders which include HRBPs, HR Managers, HR Partners, finance, legal, HRIS/tech team and business leadership. You will directly supervise a small team of compensation professionals and serve on the broader compensation leadership team in training and mentoring junior team members across the Global Compensation CoE. A successful candidate for this opportunity will possess the analytical skills to build out excel models and tools, keen attention to detail for administration and process management, and a consultative mindset as you advise and develop recommendations to internal clients. You will bring your strong interpersonal communication skills as well as ability to synthesize communication materials that translate complex and technical data and issues into a narrative and visual format, drawing out key insights and recommendations.


Compensation Review Cycle:

  • Lead the global annual compensation planning and review process and promotion cycles for global/regional services and local office business function roles

  • Conduct market analysis and interface with finance in establishing merit, promotion and market adjustment budgets across geographies

  • Conduct internal and external data analysis to review and update guidance and policies including creating/updating merit budget, merit matrix, guidance on promotional increases and guidance on market adjustments

  • Monitor and report on budget spend and outcomes of comp review cycle

  • Partner with HRIS/Workday team to design and enhance the utilization of the comp module for running the compensation review cycle, includes defining requirements for module configuration, testing, training and executing

  • Partner with broader HR community on process planning, data integrity and communications

  • Conduct compensation administration activities including variable pay calculations (individual performance bonus, profit sharing plans, etc.)

  • Create and improve excel tools, charts and communications to support the process across stakeholders

Market Analysis & Comp Structures and Programs – Supporting Global Regional Services and local business functions

  • Lead team in conducting market pricing exercises (e.g., for new roles, promotions, etc.) following established benchmarking strategy and methodology

  • Lead larger market review studies to evaluate and compare existing company total compensation programs with competitors through benchmarking, surveys, and other information sources. Analyzes results of surveys and develops specific recommendations

  • Develop compensation structures for base and variable pay programs utilizing market data and internal data inputs

  • Monitor market trends, including broader economic trends and issues impacting compensation design, competitiveness, and merit/market budget planning

  • Serve as expert advisor to HR and leadership regarding market dynamics, trends and implications for Bain talent strategy

Compensation Initiatives and Projects - Strategic compensation projects and special initiatives in support of the talent strategy, this may include but not limited to— leading efforts on…

  • Overarching compensation program design including compensation philosophy, principles and methodologies

  • Innovative incentive plan design, revision and process administration/ implementation

  • Profit sharing plan design, revision and process administration/ implementation

  • Ongoing evaluation of compensation program effectiveness

  • Geographic differential pay strategy

  • Compensation plan documents

  • Communication forums/channels for sharing and maintaining documents and processes with internal stakeholders

  • Supporting compensation activities related to organization initiatives such as large-scale organizational change, talent strategy changes, job reevaluations and team alignment and performance to improve business results

  • Other special projects as assigned


We are looking for someone who has:

  • Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or related field required

  • Minimum of 8 years previous compensation experience in a corporate environment

  • Proven knowledge of all forms of compensation including fixed, variable, and deferred, among others and of compensation trends and prevalent practices

  • General knowledge of HR and compensation regulatory issues

  • Prior leadership and supervisory experience in leading and mentoring a team of compensation or generalist HR professionals

  • Strong presentation skills with ability to communicate complex technical information in narrative and visual form that is easily understood

  • High level of discretion – ability to deal with highly confidential information appropriately

  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, writing and project management skills

  • Strong analytical, problem solving and quantitative skills

  • Ability to work both independently and as an integral member of various teams

  • Expertise in Excel and PowerPoint

  • Prior experience with marketing pricing tools

  • Knowledge of HRIS (preferably Workday) in defining compensation requirements and running tool functionality for compensation processes

Ideal candidates will also have the following:

  • Master's degree in related field (e.g., HR, Business Administration, Economics, Statistics, etc.)

  • Professional services experience and/or global compensation experience preferred

  • Experience with SharePoint, MS Teams and Workday preferred

  • Global compensation experience, understanding market practices and regulatory requirements in non-US locations
