Position Summary

The Vertical Marketing leader will play a key role in supporting the Chromatography and Mass Spectrometry's (CMD) go-to-market strategy. They will have responsibility for understanding customer needs within verticals, communicating back to the organization, and supporting commercialization strategies to address those needs. They will play a meaningful role in bringing a strong voice of customer back into the organization, providing customer needs and problems to product teams and R&D.

Another aspect of this position is the ability to understand the environment for those verticals. That requires knowledge of main government agencies and regulators, and the ability to communicate new and upcoming regulations and potential impacts to CMD. This leader is a part of the global marketing team and is a key collaborator with product marketing, product management, and the regional marketing organizations. The role supports product marketing and the commercial organization during annual R&D prioritization and marketing planning, providing a view into vertical market opportunities. The role requires knowledge of the life sciences industry or analytical instrumentation. The ideal candidate will have strong domain experience as well as a track record in strategy and/or marketing. Tried team building and development are essential. Previous experience with regulatory agencies is desired, but not required. The Vertical Marketing leader will have a strong strategic business perspective, global outlook and excellent collaboration and social skills.


  • Capture customer VOC to support a detailed understanding of customer problems and needs for each vertical

  • Identify main customers per vertical and per region. Estimate share-of-wallet and potential strategies to increase it

  • Work with competitive intelligence team to map competitors positioning in each vertical

  • Understand main trends and impacts for each vertical

  • Monitor regulatory agencies to understand impacts of new regulations. Build relations with main regulatory bodies

  • Support processes, such as strategic planning, marketing planning and R&D prioritization

  • Support commercialization and go-to-market strategies for each vertical

  • Work with product marketing to define compelling demand generation programs

  • Analyze and report out market, driven, application trends as well as workflow opportunities across CMD (Chromatography & Mass Spectrometry Division) portfolio

  • Set-up metrics and objectives and what progress looks like

  • Build a high-performance vertical marketing team

Minimum Requirements/Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Marketing, Business, or Chemistry; MBA helpful.

  • 10 years work experience in marketing, product management or management consulting

  • Shown experience and capabilities in global and vertical strategy development

  • Significant experience in building and leading hard-working marketing organizations

  • Excellent strategic problem solver with outstanding written and verbal communication skills

  • Ability to plan, execute and measure to get results

  • Collaborative approach to developing and sharing strategy, tactics, and analytics

  • Highly self-motivated leader with ability to lead and prioritize multiple projects

  • Ability to travel 10-25%
