VMware Senior Director, Solutions & Field Engineering - Opportunity for Working Remotely in Boston, Massachusetts

Success in the Role: What are the performance outcomes over the first 6-12 months you will work toward completing?

Within 30 days of employment, you will become competent with VMware Service Provider Edge Architectures and Solutions. You will build relationships and work closely with Service Provider SMEs supporting pre-sales customer activities. Within 60 days and beyond you will gain the trust of team members to lead a high-performance organization responsible for Service Provider Edge Architectures & Solutions and Field Engineering activities. You will lead team engagement with customer key decision makers as trusted advisors, to influence and promote vision, product/solution alignment and adoption.

The Work: What type of work will you be doing? What assignments, requirements, or skills will you be performing on a regular basis?

  • Build strong working relationships with your global direct reports, mentor and provide them with ongoing feedback

  • Partner with CxO in strategic Service Provider accounts

  • Design Service Provider Wireline & Wireless, network and cloud architectures

  • Manage the development of Service Provider edge & SP sell-through solutions and services

  • Design, build and deliver customer proof of concepts (POC), pilots and early field trials that demonstrate VMware Service Provider products/solutions value & industry leadership

  • Lead and manage customer programs designed to promote customer success and tight interlock with BU product management and engineering

  • Lead and manage advanced technology & joint innovation engagements with customers

  • Resolve high profile customer escalations and successfully deliver critical deployments

  • Engage with customers and field sales teams to gather customer requirements and influence product development

  • Speak at and participate in customer executive briefings

  • Speak at high visibility internal and industry events

  • Lead and contribute to BU leadership activities including defining vision, building market and competitive strategy, aligning product & resourcing investments and participating in corporate development and targeted innovation projects

  • This position reports to the SVP & GM of VMWare’s Service Provider & Edge Business Unit (SEBU)

You should have experience leading global, high-performance organizations as well as:

  • 10+ years of experience as a leader of leaders, managing organizational planning, execution, people development, KPIs, scale and investments.

  • Deep technical expertise with network and cloud platforms, solutions & technologies.

  • 10+ years of experience working with Mobile & Wireline Operators, on large scale network and cloud services delivery platforms & architectures.

  • 10+ years of experience designing multi-vendor architecture and services solutions.

  • Subject matter expert on Mobile & Wireline Network Operator industry trends, architecture evolution, market competitive landscape and business challenges.

  • Ability to identify customer business objectives and interpret technical requirements.

  • Experience helping sales teams build and execute sales & product/solution positioning strategy.

  • Experience leading and managing complex, multi-vendor hands-on proof of concepts (PoC), pilots, betas, early field deployments and technical pre-sales engagements.

  • Experience leading solution design & development teams.

  • Experience working with NEPs, ISVs and 3rd party partners on GTM strategy and execution.

  • Experience finding, attracting, developing and retaining top industry talent.

  • Executive presence and ability to build strong relationships with customer CxOs.

  • Experience speaking at prominent internal/industry events on vision, strategy and technology.

  • Patents in the Mobile Core & RAN space – Highly Preferred.

  • Bachelor’s degree in a technical discipline. MBA preferred.

  • Be able to travel domestic/international 50%+ (post Covid)

Where is this role located?

This team is based out of VMware’s Palo Alto, California office. However, this role is open to fully remote and can be done anywhere in North America, preferably in the Pacific Standard Time zone. If you live in the surrounding areas, you will have the option to work from the office partly or fully if you wish to do so.
