VMware Senior Director of Product Management, Tanzu Observability - Opportunity for Working Remotely in Boston, Massachusetts

Come join VMware’s Modern Applications Business Unit (MAPBU) team. We work on products and services in the Tanzu ( portfolio that help users build, run, manage, and observe all of their applications and workloads on any cloud. As the Product leader for Tanzu Observability, ( your mission will be to give Developers and Site Reliability Engineers (SRE) the confidence to ship code faster and to operate highly scalable and distributed workloads while still getting a good night's sleep.

What is the primary need, technical challenge, and/or problem you will be responsible for?

You’ll lead the product management team responsible for driving the vision, strategy, and the day-to-day execution of Tanzu Observability. Together with your team you’ll identify and address the needs of Developers, Site Reliability Engineers (SRE), and Operations Teams as they build modern cloud-native applications, and operate distributed infrastructure at scale.

You’ll have the opportunity to work with both popular open-source technologies and proprietary SaaS solutions; contributing to the open-source community but also delivering direct business and revenue impact.

Success in the Role: What are the performance goals over the first 6-12 months you will work toward completing?

  • You’ll be responsible for the end-to-end product strategy for Observability.

  • Retain, develop and grow a high-functioning and self-sufficient team of product managers.

  • Strengthen VMware’s position in the observability domain and establish Tanzu Observability as the best-of-breed modern observability platform.

You’re a seasoned people and product manager, and will ensure the product and team are set up for success with the right lens on product strategy. You’re an excellent communicator, and will ensure alignment across the organization and company around the Observability strategy. You’ll foster an environment for success for your team - an open, inclusive, diverse culture, and the empowerment to do their best work. You’ll also mentor your peers, using both past and new experiences to help those around you learn and grow.

What type of work will you be doing? What assignments, requirements, or skills will you be performing on a regular basis?

  • You will hire, retain, grow and lead a world-class, distributed group of PMs. You will directly manage managers and senior individual contributors.

  • You’ll lead the product strategy, and set the group’s objectives and key results that deliver on the strategy.

  • You’ll ensure your PM team members have clarity of purpose and are set up for success. You’ll coach and mentor them, give them opportunities to learn, grow and stretch themselves to do their best work.

  • You’ll energize the entire Observability organization to build the best modern observability platform.

  • You will collaborate with product leaders across Tanzu to drive alignment on observability strategy, priorities and needs, in order to deliver a world-class experience.

  • You’ll conduct customer and market analysis to help shape the product vision and strategy.

  • You will lead the product line through various stages from inception to launch to continuous improvement.

  • You will work closely with engineering, design, and information experience teams and drive end to end execution.

  • You’ll collaborate with customer field teams and go-to-market teams to ensure they have the enablement they need, and there is a 360-degree view of customer success.

  • You’ll create solutions that scale to meet the needs of the world’s biggest enterprises.

  • Net-net, you’ll be responsible and accountable for setting the direction and delivering success in the Observability space.
