Position Overview

The Senior Director of Business Strategies will manage the team responsible for developing and communicating the future growth strategy for Autodesk’s Architecture, Engineering, and Construction (AEC) Solutions. You will lead the strategic planning process, working across functions, to frame the strategy and drive alignment and execution on key future growth initiatives. You and your team will act as internal and external evangelists for the AEC industry and product strategy, representing Autodesk at key industry events and in meetings with customers. This role could be based anywhere in the US or Canada near an Autodesk office.

Additionally, this team will identify and review strategic issues faced by Autodesk and provide leadership to drive resolution and/or develop an action-oriented plan to achieve the identified goal. You and the team will also identify, design, and execute industry partnerships and acquisitions in support of the AEC strategy. As a member of the AEC strategy leadership team, you will be responsible for jointly establishing goals, objectives, and metrics to measure the success of the AEC future growth strategy. In addition, you will manage a small team of business development managers located in key countries.

This role reports to the VP of AEC Strategy, who is based in Boston, but this role can be based in any North American city where we have an Autodesk office (Boston, Montreal, SF, Denver, Portland to name a few).

Responsibilities

  • Inspire internal and external audiences by telling compelling stories about the industry and about Autodesk’s offerings

  • Lead the strategic planning process, working across functions, to frame the strategy and drive alignment and execution on key initiatives

  • Work closely with AEC leadership to develop overall industry strategy, utilizing industry trends and outlook, and competitive intelligence

  • Identify, define, and articulate industry, market, and emerging trends and how they may affect Autodesk

  • Partner with GTM and analytics team to assess growth areas, industry/market trends, interpret market intelligence TAM, and profile competitive threats

  • Evaluate expansion opportunities for AEC including new markets, segments, personas and business models and create business cases in support of such expansion

  • Stay abreast of competitive landscape, global marketplace, and external business environment, as well as technology trends and industry trends, and their adoption in the construction sector

  • Work with Autodesk corporate business development team to identify, design and execute partnerships in support of Autodesk strategic M&A and partnership pipeline. Conduct build, buy, partner analyses to determine best path to fulfill strategic objectives

  • Manage existing relationships with AEC portfolio companies and ensure success metrics are on track

  • Develop operating metrics (in partnership with Finance, Sales, Analytics, and Marketing) to track and improve business performance

  • Support creation of annual long-range planning (LRP) process to develop the 3-year financial plan for key segments and align key stakeholders on the long-term strategic outlook

Minimum Qualifications

  • 10+ years-experience in a business strategy and/or business development role or marketing in AEC software, Business degree required, MBA preferred

  • 10+ years-experience developing and executing GTM plans for disruptive new offerings

  • 10+ years of global experience including EU, China, Japan, UK

  • Solid knowledge of BIM, cloud services, mobile and emerging technologies

  • Superior communication and interpersonal skills. Ability to successfully convey complex ideas and influence customers and colleagues at an executive level

  • Ability to collaborate successfully with other executives to achieve shared business objectives

  • Superior ability to multi-task and thrive in a fast pace environment

  • Demonstrated ability to think and act strategically in the context of building business strategies

  • Proven senior leadership abilities including creative and proactive approach to conflict resolution and problem solving, mentoring, coaching, recognition, and performance management

  • Experience managing a team across a matrixed environment

  • Highly motivated, results-oriented, self-starter with strong analytical, presentation and communication skills
