Pearson Senior Creative Services Copywriter in Boston, Massachusetts

Position Summary:

Are you passionate about copywriting and engaging customers to take action and feel connected to a brand? Then this Senior Copywriter role is for you. This important role on our Creative Services team will work with innovative creatives, content experts, and passionate marketing leaders to fuel audience growth and engagement.

The Senior Copywriter will be responsible for leading the creation of written marketing content for internal clients throughout the Pearson Virtual Schools organization. Reporting to the Creative Services Manager, this person will write and edit copy for our Connections Academy, Pearson Online Academy, and District Partnerships lines of business and manage a team of supporting freelance copywriters.

This person will be writing and editing copy for video scripts, websites, landing pages, direct mail, email, infographics, social media, and more! The ideal candidate will have a passion for the written word and experience copywriting in an agency environment for various Clients ranging from direct to consumer and B2B. The Senior Copywriter will have the exciting opportunity to bring our brands’ voices to life and play a key role in our efforts to educate and engage prospective families and districts about the important benefits of online education.

Primary Responsibilities:

Write winning content that intrigues, inspires, and engages audiences, while also driving results. This copywriter must effectively communicate our brand messaging, positioning, and call to action to our prospects and current customers. They should have a:

  • Expert ability to write digital content for varying formats and audiences, adhering to best practices and standards of the individual marketing channels, including:

  • Website copy

  • Lead-driving landing page content

  • Optimizing digital content for SEO

  • Interactive infographics

  • Effective email campaigns

  • Organic social media post copy and occasionally paid search and social executions as-needed

  • Passion to creatively adapt the brand’s voice and tone to deliver on messaging goals throughout the funnel in external communications, including but not limited to the following formats:

  • Video

  • Events scripting for presentations and videos, handouts and flyers

  • Brochures, flyers, posters

  • Direct Mail postcards and Versioning school-specific information

  • Enthusiasm for leading team of freelance copywriters in the development of successful content

  • Assign out projects and provide copy direction

  • Review draft copy and provide feedback

  • Ensure thorough understanding of brand(s) positioning, voice, tone, mandatories, etc. through trainings and frequent updates

  • Thorough understanding of how to effectively communicate with various audiences throughout the funnel to maintain and improve customer experience by:

  • Drafting and editing internal communications

  • Drafting and editing customer-facing copy used by customer support team, including call scripts, email templates, etc

  • Drafting and editing customer-facing enrollment system messaging

  • Other duties as needed

  • Assisting and supporting needs of Resource Hub

  • Proofread copy and design

  • Ensure compliance with Pearson, Connections Academy, and Pearson Online Academy brand standards and style guide

  • Enforce and maintain brand standards and style guides

  • Train out (as-needed) brand standards and style guides to freelancers and partner agencies

  • Project Management- Ability to self-manage to deadlines and be communicative regarding workload and expectation-setting.


  • Creative Work Portfolio must be submitted along with resume

  • Bachelor's Degree required, preferably in English, Journalism, Advertising or Marketing

  • Three (4) to five (6) years experience writing and editing marketing copy in an agency or agency-like environment

  • Strong organizational skills and ability to manage and prioritize multiple projects based on business-critical needs and meet deadlines

  • Some supervisory experience with freelance writers or content creators

  • Knowledge of and experience with crafting content for SEO

  • Experience in digital content creation for online experiences, websites, and other digital media leveraging catchy headlines, implementing linking strategies, and optimizing writing for SEO to drive clicks and conversions

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, and ability to handle situations with diplomacy and a professional demeanor at all times.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Expert ability to switch branding and tones to cater to D2C (direct to consumer) and B2B (business to business) audiences

  • Passion for marketing and advertising, constantly seeking out new ideas and trends

  • Focused on continuously improving skills to meet changing demand of the digital marketing landscape

Colorado-based individuals expressing interest in this position can expect a starting salary range of $75,000-$85,000, and are eligible to participate in an annual incentive plan. Benefits available to eligible employees can be seen at:
