Boston Globe Media Partners Senior Coordinator, Innovation & Strategic Initiatives in Boston, Massachusetts

Job Description:

Boston Globe Media is hiring for a Senior Coordinator, Innovation & Strategic Initiatives, to work on a variety of projects at the parent company of The Boston Globe,, and STAT News. This is a newly created role that will execute the planning and implementation of seasonal activities such as Innovation Week and our popular Hack Day & Idea Pitch events. They will also work with the Innovation team on select strategic initiatives, from research and planning to coordination and execution. This individual will also work with the team to continue refining BGM Labs’ approach to innovation — ranging from high-level discussions about how we work to organizing our digital assets and toolkit.

The ideal candidate will be someone with a flexible and entrepreneurial mindset, the ability to carry a project from start to finish, and the willingness to roll up their sleeves and dive into the hands-on work required to make ideas a reality.

This role will report to the Director of Innovation.


  • Managing the process, from beginning to end, for Innovation Initiatives (35%)

  • Owning the functional and usage of the team’s innovation platform BrightIdea — how it works, setting up new initiatives, ensuring we have data to feed the metric function

  • Entering event details and ensuring all information is accurate to launch an event, helping users troubleshoot activities on the platform, owning the inputs from start to finish

  • Executing all operational elements of running an initiative — run of show, notes 

  • Promoting the events — creating fliers, posting in Slack channels, looking for places to communicate internally and spreading the word

  • Booking conference rooms to support the events

  • Strategic Initiatives (35%)

  • Supporting with project management — maintaining milestones using project management tools such as, requesting updates from the project owner, providing updates to Innovation team leadership and key stakeholders in status meetings

  • Documenting internal learnings via case studies and recap notes

  • Using prepared templates, documenting a project’s progress and results on an ongoing basis

  • Recapping key meetings in writing for internal stakeholders for relevant projects

  • Research & Discovery (30%)

  • Basic research on new topics, technologies, and products for further exploration

  • E.g. weddings, shoes, geographies

  • Staying on top of media trends — consumer, competition, industry

  • Investigating new/niche audiences by reading and summarizing research for the team — internet, market research resources internally, industry publications


  • Bachelor’s degree

  • 2-5 years of relevant work experience

  • Previous experience as a project manager or coordinator

  • Previous experience working in digital

  • Knowledge of journalism and/or publishing

  • Knowledge of MS Office, Google Docs/Sheets/Drive, and willingness to learn new tools/platforms

  • A willingness to adapt and be audience focused, with a curious mindset and a commitment to creating an inclusive work environment
